Succeeding part two of Monty Luke’s ‘Nightdubbing’ series on Rekids, the US-via-Berlin artist unveils an album of the same name on Radio Slave’s lauded Rekids imprint. ‘Nightdubbing’ encompasses the first two instalments and adds five more tracks of intricate sonic material, completing this gorgeous work of art already supported by Fred P, nd_baumecker, Louise Chen, and Laurent Garnier. 

Luke’s ‘Nightdubbing’ album starts in the club, with the rave-primed ‘40 Acres And A Terabyte’ utilising the rich melodies of deep house alongside the crushing weight of subs. It is followed by the title track, with ‘Nightdubbing’ taking a more traditional house route, its soothing sounds enveloping the listener while honing in on that reverb sweet spot. 

Black Catalogue boss and former Planet-E label manager Monty Luke’s timeless ‘Nightdubbing’ effortlessly traverses deep house and techno rife with bass-rattling low-end and experimental rhythms. It is no surprise, then, that the album is heavily inspired by ‘70s and mid-80s dub reggae, seeing Luke incorporate and modernise the genre’s iconic rhythms, spoken word poetry, and spacious bursts of harmony across the LP, particularly in tracks like ‘Cop Outside’ and ‘Travelling ‘Round The Sun’.

‘Bob Molly’ picks up pace with nods to Caribbean dem bow-like rhythms of old, Monty Luke filling the space between its infectious beat with tumbling percussion and echoing plucks. Tracks like ‘Supernova’, ‘New World / Old Future’ and ‘Starstorms’ return to the modern-day traditions of club music while ‘Gamma Raze’, ‘Future Mystic’, and ‘Roots’ again find room in between the dancefloor and sound system listening sessions. The ambient ‘Theme From Nightdubbing’ is another stand-out on the album, successfully leaving an opening to escape the world through music and making the mind wander via swirling melody and sparse drums.

Kicking oﬀ Rekids’ January, Monty Luke’s ‘Nightdubbing (Part 1)’ won the support of Josh Wink, Laurent Garnier, Fred P and many more. Radio Slave’s esteemed label now readies itself for part two, starting with ‘Supernova’, a slow-burning groover shot through with whirly synths and deep space textures, broken up by retro vocal samples. ‘Starstorms’ continues to explore the deepest reaches of the unknown, picking up pace via shaker rhythms, driving bass, and raw foot-on-the-pedal pads.

Up next is Monty Luke’s ‘New World / Old Future’, in which scratch-like drums, dubbed-out hits and a rolling rhythm are all in perfect order before the psychedelic ‘Avantgarde Dancehall’ introduces wonky liquid sonics and intricate melodies over a steady beat. Closing this eclectic oﬀering, ‘Travelling ‘Round The Sun’ features drums rooted in dub alongside spoken word poetry, rounding oﬀ a release that is storytelling at its very best.

Monty Luke spent ten formative years in Detroit, where the city's unique musical spirit inﬂuenced him immensely. He has since distilled this experience into the music he has put out on labels like Rekids, Planet-E, Hypercolour, and his own Black Catalogue. His raw, dub-infused sound comes with plenty of futuristic designs, with this second part of ‘Nightdubbing’ continuing to push the boundaries of his music.

Jennifer Cardini’s imprint Correspondant return with their fourth instalment of the ’Numéro’ series with contributions from respected luminaries of the scene Sarah Wild, David Kochs & Raphael Schön, Keith Holland and DC Salas. Numéro 4 kicks off with the tone setting, progressive Italo-dance adjecent anthem ‘Ready To Fly’ by Sarah Wild. Up next is Kochs & Schön’s collaboration on ’Sweet In Mind’ which merges the pairs signature sounds into an emotive, versatile track playable in multiple contexts. Keith Holland’s ‘Arte’ effortlessly blends classic 90s house motifs with a modern touch. Closing out the impressive four track is Belgium’s DC Salas and ‘Moving Shadows’. The track is a journey through the extremes: dark basslines vs euphoric melodies, embodying the essence of our world: a world full of contradictions. An expertly compiled V/A, Numéro 4 brings together tracks which are both complimentary and different in equal measure.

Hermanos Inglesos are releasing a brand new version of ‘Wanderland’ featuring the enchanting voice of Lara Chedraoui, lead singer of Belgian cult indie band ‘Intergalactic Lovers’. The new version is backed by a remix by Greek disco god NTEIBINT: "Wanderland feels like an 80s hit song you already knew and loved. So my disco remix came out naturally, more like Prince doing Scandinavian disco. Drums, bass and Lara's silky vocals on top."
The music of 'Wanderland' takes you back to that lovely time of carefree fun, whether it was during the children's disco, at school camp or somewhere else. Wanderland is co-produced by Bert Libeert of GOOSE and the artwork is made by Max Drekker.
