Radio Slave welcomes UK techno talent Roberto to Rekids to deliver the latest instalment in the ‘Special Projects’ series as he opens 2019 with his ‘Let’s Be Free’ EP.

Based in London, Roberto aka Rob Kirkaldy is one of the latest names of note to emerge from the capital’s ever-impressing electronic music scene having showcased his rich blend of deep and immersing techno via a host of esteemed imprints including ARTS, Fachwerk and his own label Fossil Archive, founded in 2015, in recent years. Following a string of performances across revered establishments including fabric, Tresor, Culture Box and Berghain, 2019 will open with a debut outing on Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint as he delivers four entrancing techno cuts in the form of his ‘Let’s Be Free’ EP, set to drop in late January as part of the label’s Special Projects series.

‘The Jester’ opens the EP as Kirkaldy fuses slick, crisp percussion amongst murky swells and ever developing, dubby chord arrangements, whilst ‘Tonic’ continues this aesthetic as transcendental melodies meet deep kicks and delicate hats to reveal a captivating journey across six and a half minutes.

On the flip, ‘The Days Are Longer Now’ utilises a skillful balance of emotive synths and refined kicks to deliver the most up front production of the package, before title cut ‘Lets Be Free’ closes proceedings as resonant melodies and paired back organic percussion patterns ebb and flow amongst pockets of intricate sound design to conclude yet another impressive release on the Berlin based imprint.

Schacke transmits a 4 track EP of erotically charged techno, pulsing with soundscapes & textures that evoke at once both the interior of the body and the inner workings of the universe’s hive-mind, vocal samples haze into orgy, sweeping walls of noise are punctuated by trance-influenced melodies, buoyed by a rhythm track that is as playful as it is relentless.

Schacke has been a pivotal figure for the current Copenhagen techno scene, having run the Moral Defeat label from the underground hub that is Mayhem, his roots in punk and noise music define an energy and intrigue to his production that is singular.

This time we‘ve got a full round of straight-forward floor-weapons for you, contrasting two producer‘s very different approaches and their respective reworks by Len Faki. 

The A-side is packing heat in form of classic, jacking acid house courtesy of Michael E, whose tracks have that special Ultramajic-sparkle about them but hit with the tight punch and accute precision of a true LF-engineered edit.

Similar goes for the ominous reworks of Litüus‘ experimental synthesis on the flip. Released originally on Shifted‘s Avian label, these heavily modulated analogue sequences merge seemlessy together with Faki‘s metallic percussion.

As usual with LFRMX releases, the proceeds of this record will be forwarded entirely to charity organization Straßenkinder e.V., who are working to offer help to the children living on the streets of Berlin.

REC101 - Hour Mix

The second leg of the two-part release sees the sound becomes darker, more unrelenting, and increasingly intense as the ensemble of producers showcases its mastery of sound with four enthralling tracks to captivate the most demanding of techno crowds.

Linn Elisabet sets the tone with ‘Insert Her Name Here’, taking the listener on an emotional, entrancing journey featuring her own soothing vocals over a broken beat which engages both body and mind. Continuing in the same light, Pjotr G launches ‘Troubled People’, a hypnotic beat showcasing his depth of production abilities.

Głós kicks off the second face of the record with his eponym cut ‘The Rave Track’, driven by a stirring muddy kick and a memorable melody to get the crowd going. The crowning stroke of the release is ‘Birds Hill’, a thunderous 134 bpm techno banger from Mediane to close on a high note and cement the essence of the darker, faster facet of Affûté.

Out on an ultra-limited series of 12" vinyl and all digital platforms from November 22, 2019.
