¿No tenéis la impresión del hecho que todo se está volviendo muy freak? Servidor casi encuentra a faltar la época del minimal, cuando todo estaba mucho más claro, o la vida sin complicaciones de los fans del EDM, que se lo encuentran todo muy mascado. Pero no puede ser: el freakismo impera y en consecuencia individuos como Timothy J Fairplay tienen las de ganar. Amigo de Andrew Weatherall, otro maestro en eso de hacer las cosas al revés que los demás, con quien sacó un LP de freaktronica el año pasado, con diversos EPs propios en sellos ultraundergrounds y amante de los cachivaches analógicos, nuestro invitado de hoy desplegará su arsenal de techno, house, acid y electro bastardo y con tendencia cósmica. Lo que más nos llama la atención es la capacidad de freaks como él de poner las pistas del revés. El mundo es extraño.

Don’t you have the impression that everything is turning very freaky? Servidor almost misses the minimalist era, when everything was much clearer, or the uncomplicated life of EDM fans, who have everything processed for them. But that’s impossible: the freaks are in charge and, as a result, individuals like Timothy J Fairplay are in the driving seat. A friend of Andrew Weatherall, another master of doing things the opposite way round to others, with whom he put out a freaktronica LP last year, our guest has had various EPs of his own on ultraunderground labels and loves analogue gizmos. Today he will deploy his full arsenal of techno, house, acid and electro bastard, with cosmic tendencies. What we notice most is the capacity of freaks like him to turn dancefloors upside down. What a weird world!

Tadeo es un verdadero self made man del techno nacional. Desde que publicó sus primeros EPs no tardó demasiado en montar su propio label, Cyclical Tracks, al cual después siguió Another Intelligence, donde lanza la mayoría de sus referencias en plan ‘yo me lo guiso, etc’. Aparte de los posibles criterios empresariales, la jugada tiene mucha razón de ser porqué Tadeo tiene una ideología muy personal sobre esto del techno y sus implicaciones cósmicas y científicas, en la que incluso tiene en cuenta el efecto de la hipnosis y la repetición sobre la mente humana. Obviamente, este no es el lugar para entrar en detalles sobre todo esto, pero de todas maneras tampoco no es necesario saberlo para disfrutar y bailar su techno vanguardista, futurista, de precisión y a la manera clásica de dos platos y un mixer.

Las fiestas Polybius Trax van camino de convertirse en eventos legendarios. Si ya nos tenían acostumbrados a invitados de postín, esta noche rizarán el rizo con Rob Hall, conocido durante muchos años como ‘el hombre que pinchaba en las giras de Autechre’. Un auténtico VIP de la música británica en activo desde los tiempos pre-digitales y que se pasea como por su casa por los dominios de Warp, Skam, Berghain y demás cumbres del Olimpo electrónico. Un experto en bizarrismos ritmicos, beats futuristas y twisted funk muy en la onda de las mentes perversas de los chicos Polybius.

El gran lord de la electrónica inglesa no sólo sigue en activo sino que en su web amenaza con un nuevo disco que probablemente ya habrá salido cuando venga a pinchar a nuestro club. Conociéndolo, es imposible saber si irá de electro heterodoxo, de electrónica rockista, de dub cósmico o de otra cosa, pero seguro que tanto el disco como la sesión que se marcará esta noche serán apoteosis del eclecticismo electrónico bailable como sólo el maestro sabe generar.

El sello dark Clásicos Del Ruido ha caído subyugado antes los encantos de  Synth Alien, un gallego al que le van a publicar una referencia próximamente, que practica una mezcla de electrónica analógica y electro-disco con tendencia a lo cósmico, y que ya cuenta con un LP y varios EPs en diferentes sellos europeos. Un gran exponente de la electrónica nacional más subterránea que te presentarán en directo. La noche se completará con el incombustible Robert Calvin (aka Groof), que revelará sus influencias más oscuras y cósmicas, y Gus Van Sound, uno de los jefes del sello.

Crimes Of The Future es el sonido de la ciudad solitaria. Scott Fraser y Timothy J Fairplay se inventaron primero las fiestas y luego el sello con ese nombre, con el propósito de pinchar y publicar música ideal para sonorizar escenas de crímenes. Y no hay duda de que lo han conseguido: el sonido que han logrado es nocturno, analógico y misterioso, a ratos sobrecogedor y a ratos amenazante. Curiosamente, en el catálogo del sello hay pocas referencias de sus dos jefes, que reparten sus temas entre Astro Lab, Relish y otros labels igual de heterodoxos, aunque siempre con el mismo aire de techno noir que caracteriza a Crimes Of The Future. Electrónica cruda y leftfield, como no podía ser de otra manera viniendo de dos individuos que empezaron en la órbita de Andrew Weatherall y que están contribuyendo a reinventar el techno británico.

Crimes Of The Future is the sound of the lonely city. Scott Fraser and Timothy J Fairplay invented the parties first, and then the label with the same name so they can play and release music ideal for providing soundtracks to crime scenes. And they’ve definitely got away with it: the sound they have achieved is nocturnal, analogue and mysterious; sometimes exciting and sometimes menacing. Curiously, the label’s catalogue has few references from its two bosses, who distribute their tunes between Astro Lab, Relish and other equally heterodox labels, always with the same air of techno noir characterising Crimes of the Future. Crude, leftfield electronica, which could hardly be otherwise coming from two individuals who began in the orbit of Andrew Weatherall and who are contributing to reinventing British techno.

This is my all night set at Moog bcn from last month. It was a great chilled and enjoyable night.  Maybe it's not the perfect mix, but it was  the perfect night with the perfect vibe, thanks to all the people that came to enjoy music from minute 1. Thanks for being so warm, patient and the nicest crowd in a hot night of august. It was a great pleasure to play for you.

D’Marc Cantu (Nation, MOS, Crème / US)

D'Marc Cantu or DMC as he is sometimes known, started working on Acid house in 2000 after meeting fellow artist James T. Cotton (JTC). By melding his love of Acid house, experimental noise and his background in percussion he quickly started creating what would later be coined as "Jakbeat". 

In 2005 Cantu and JTC formed 2Am/Fm releasing 3 floor banging albums and several songs on Ghostly International’s sister label Spectral. In 2006 he teamed up with Traxx & JTC to create X2, releasing Primitive Cypher on Relief Records from Chicago. 

Since 2006 he has worked on MOS and Crème Organization making numerous Detroit and Chicago inspired tracks.
