The Dip - Oktober '25

Finding the link between the best punk & synthesizer music from the late '70s, and early '80s, and contemporary artists still tapping into that same sound and energy. The name Spacelab Chromosome is a conjunction of the Kraftwerk song, from Die Mensch-Machine album, and the San Francisco industrial rock band Chrome. A study project into the genetic string DNA of underground music from Generation X up to today. Vinyl only.

For this episode, I’m going back home. Back to the source. Last weekend I went to my mom’s house and she lent me a bunch of her favourite CDs. It reminded me of how much of a music head my mom used to be, and how similar a lot of the music I listen to is to what she used to play.
 

I grew up surrounded by music, but as I became a teenager that slowly faded. My mom went through a lot of fucked up shit that made her stop listening to music the way she used to. In a way, I feel like that part of her died for quite some time. She might feel like she lost her spark, but I came to the realization that she actually never did. That spark of hers is highly alive in me.
 

She gave me so much — my taste in music, my elegance and grace, my sense of fashion and style. A lot of who I am, I am because of her. My mom and I are very different in many ways, and we used to clash a lot too. I also left my hometown and started living on my own at a very young age. That really shaped me. Of course, I’m half my father and half my mom, and I also carry many of my dad’s traits.
 

But I came to realize that I resemble her more than I thought. And I decided to come up with a new concept for Montrouve that I’ll do every now and then, besides my DJ sets. This concept is called Going Back Home, and it’s dedicated to my momma. Each episode highlights an artist my mom used to love, and so do I.
 

For me, this is a way of giving that spark back to her. Reminding her of who she is, while I’m learning more and more about who I am and where I come from.
