Cio D’Or hardly requires an introduction, having long stood as both a pillar of our scene and a source of inspiration for so many. Over the course of her singular and decades-spanning career, the Cologne-based artist has cultivated a universe of sound entirely her own, immediately recognizable yet endlessly evolving much like the work of her contemporaries and collaborators Mike Parker and Donato Dozzy. To experience Cio’s music is to follow a throughline that traces the complex history of contemporary techno in a single gesture, compelled by the vast unknown and the primordial familiar in equal measure. Recalling the blurred realism of Richter’s photo-paintings or the timeless intricacy of Bach’s fugues, Cio’s self-contained sonic world delicately reframes our own precious lifecycle, a reflection revealed through its elegant and subtractive minimalism.

In collaboration with our friends at Mostra, I’m honored to share a selection from Cio D’Or’s set performed at this year’s edition of the Barcelona-based festival, a sublime triumph from a scholar of sound.

Sure Thing Mix 146: Cio D'Or

Ilya Semashkevich is a Belarusian-Polish composer, sound engineer, and multidisciplinary artist born in 1997 in Brest. His practice merges electronic and acoustic composition, live performance, improvisation, and visual expression. With a background in jazz, sound production, and experimental music, he works across genres such as ambient, idm, trance, house, and contemporary classical. His approach treats sound as both structure and form, a tool for perception, memory, and artistic thinking. Influenced by lo-fi aesthetics, minimalism, and sonic spatiality, Semashkevich explores the concept of “Imaginative Mixing”, aural equivalents of visual composition.

Ilya had to say the following about this live-recording: "For me, this live performance became a release of accumulated thoughts about home life and the art of “dirty listening.”
Life runs, flows, flies, crawls, stands still.
And I sit, walk, float, watch.
In hot or frosty, gray or yellow days - coziness makes me stronger.
Listening to this recording on a proper sound system will, of course, be great, but even through your phone speakers, you won’t lose its essence."

It’s a great honor to welcome VIK, one of the ever-lasting personas of the scene, as the guest of the 41st edition of our podcast series.

His passion for deep, softly hallucinatory, and uplifting sounds, which over time has evolved into a full-time pursuit, provides the perfect essence for building the atmosphere of the set and makes his performances heartfelt and immersive.

For this mix, he was kind enough to share some of the treasured tracks and digs he’s collected over the years.

Epìcycle invites Thomas Gram @ GIMIC - 26 October 2025

Our next mix comes from some very good pals of ours, @inner_zone. As well as running one of our all time favourite labels @spacelabrecords, Nic and Rupes are responsible for some of the best parties London has seen in recent years. Having founded the legendary Make Me event series, they now run Transmissions at Fold as well as its yearly festival edition Transmissions From Hackney. They've also released some great EPs on labels such as Feelings Worldwide and their own Space Lab imprint.

This mix exemplifies their versatility; a live recording from their warm up for Sunju Hargun at one of their Fold parties last year. Taken from the opening hours of the party and progressing from deeper to more rolling sounds while building tension, this set captures the perfect early-night balance between patience and momentum. It's a perfect snapshot of what makes them such great DJs - deep selections, great pacing and total synergy between the two of them. Thanks boys!

Rotation 045: Inner Zone @ Fold - London

Âsan is back on home ground with a recording from this year’s annual upstate gathering hosted by the @itsdelayed crew. It’s his third appearance on the Cellar Door podcast and his second set from the place we’ve all come to know as The Barn. As a friend once said, “go to the barn and forget everything,” and that couldn’t ring truer.

Recorded live, this mix captures Âsan closing out Friday night after an incredible set from a dear friend and the man behind "Sundays For.." series @huedj. The energy carried deep into the night, blending warmth, tension, and release in equal measure — a journey that felt both spontaneous and familiar. It's an evolving snapshot of a moment shared under those familiar wooden beams with some of the most amazing people this place brings together.

Pintai Mix 013: TREN - ambient live set at Pintai x Small Steps (ADE)

In original form his single ‘Hexaline’ is an intense and driving bit of techno with majestic synth patterns that light up the whole track as they dance up and down the scale whilst the slick drums power on below. It’s a terrific techno cut for the peak of the night to get hands in the air, with a powerful sound courtesy of Ulrich Schnauss’ masterful mixdown.
Hiroshi Watanabe then steps up to remix after strong outings on labels like Transmat earlier in the year. He is one of Japan’s leading electronic producers on labels likes Mule, King Street Sounds and Kompakt and here he totally reworks the track into a nine minute techno symphony with icy drums doing a restless dance as swirling pads bring a cosmic feel. It’s epic, elegant techno that takes you on a real trip.
The next remix is from A.Mochi, one of Len Faki’s key label associates on Figure and someone with a live PA and DJ set that leaves you spellbound. From CLR to Mote-Evolver he has released on the best contemporary techno labels and played at places like Berghain so is an unquestionably vital artist. His excellent rework is deep, slow burning and hugely atmospheric, with pensive pads and tender one-finger synth notes ringing out into the sky.
