Sport is the 2nd release by @https://soundcloud.com/kuf and @https://soundcloud.com/ddoldd on Float Records. These guys from the north again delivered 4 solid tracks with minimal, but intriguing elements.

The EP is titled Sport and Kuf takes of the title track. 'Sport' is exactly what a pro sporter would sound like during his game. Full speed with 100% adrenaline focussed on it’s goal. 'FM Loops', the 2nd deliverance by Kuf has some tensed exotic vibes. Or isn’t it exotic? Judge it yourself. 

On the flip side his friend Dold seems to take it down a notch. But don’t be fooled, because Moment, the 1st track, has some big impact. Combining intelligent bleeps with a minimal bassline and some heavy drums you’ll get what Dold always gives. And don't forget the solid atmospherical pads to give some extra emotion to the track. The 2nd one is Revolution. Based on a falling and rising bassline and minimal drums this will fit smoothly into any set.

With that classic, depth-charged warehouse sound blending the heavier side of Detroit techno with a shot of Basic Channel atmospherics and a rickety stepped UK edge, this is a real time-stamp set into stone. A spectral rotation through the deeper sides of 4/4 with each slice coated in a dazzling array of synth programming, heavily effected interstellar rhythms and processing that goes from scorched & crusted to clean and undulating as each side is flipped.

A refined and considered document spanning the many elements of techno that sees thumping deepness (Vanisher, Super Intelligent, Psychic) collide with crunchy, straight-down-the-line stompers (The Ram, Endless, Razor, Diagonal Iris), blistering heaviness (Flood, Intuitionist) and galaxian dub techno (Past Life Memory).

Overall, a truly inspiring body of modern techno from one of the finest and most standout new artists in Canadian electronic music.

MindTrip Podcast 016 - Kuf & Dold

Blawan has been in his own sound world for years now. Releasing on the likes of Hessle Audio, Hinge Finger and his own Ternesc, he’s made brutalist, heavily textured tracks, big room tools and dark grooves with freaky sound design. It’s all helped to make him one of the most interesting producers of the day, and here he shows another side to his sound. 

First up is his version of ‘The Hermit,’ which is seven spacious and mysterious minutes of creeping pads and implicit rhythms. Dark but inviting, it’s stripped back, hollowed out techno that manages to be hugely absorbing and menacing without any clearly defined drums. 

On the flip is the equally beguiling ‘The High Priestess’. Deep, subliminal kicks set the tone as groaning riffs, train-track percussion and distant, tortured pads all slowly hypnotise. It builds in pressure and creeps you out as it locks you ever further in. 

This is evocative dead-of-night music that says a lot in impressively economical ways.
