According to the Babylonian Mul.Apin, which dates from 1000–686 BCE, this constellation was known as "The Furrow", representing the goddess Shala's ear of grain. One star in this constellation, Spica, retains this tradition as it is Latin for "ear of grain", one of the major products of the Mesopotamian furrow. The constellation was also known as "AB.SIN" and "absinnu". For this reason the constellation became associated with fertility. According to Gavin White the figure of Virgo corresponds to two Babylonian constellations: the "Furrow" in the eastern sector of Virgo and the "Frond of Erua" in the western sector. The Frond of Erua was depicted as a goddess holding a palm-frond – a motif that still occasionally appears in much later depictions of Virgo. There is very important documentation referring to the description of the constellation Virgo, which has its origin in the ancient Assyrian-Babylonian culture. This constellation has always been female and has been especially associated with the tension between fertility and beauty. The Babylonians associated this constellation with the goddess Ishtar, also well-known under the name of Ashtoreth or Astarte.
The Greeks and Romans associated Virgo with their goddess of wheat/agriculture, Demeter-Ceres who is the mother of Persephone-Proserpina. Alternatively, she was sometimes identified as the virgin goddess Iustitia or Astraea, holding the scales of justice in her hand as the constellation Libra. Another myth identifies Virgo as Erigone, the daughter of Icarius of Athens. Icarius, who had been favoured by Dionysus, was killed by his shepherds while they were intoxicated and Erigone hanged herself in grief; Dionysus placed the father and daughter in the stars as Boötes and Virgo respectively. In the Middle Ages, Virgo was sometimes associated with the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Virgo is often portrayed carrying two sheaves of wheat, one of which is marked by the bright star Spica.

DRR Podcast 008 - Axkan

Coming off of EP releases on Dynamic Reflection and 100% Pure, Uun returns to his label Ego Death for it's third release, and it's first on vinyl. 

The title track references Carl Sagan's classic work of skepticism "Demon Haunted World." It features a percussive attack that builds into a swirling tornado of distorted synths and hihats. "The Scarlet Martyr" takes a different approach that is heavy on pads and atmospheric elements, all over a bed of field recordings. The B Side starts with NX1's remix of the title track. This interpretation chops up the synths and percussive elements into a broken beat onslaught that builds into the main synth element being deconstructed piece by piece. The final track "Dominions" continues in the broken beat direction with a more straightforward dancefloor approach.

-Biographie-

Born in Naples on 18th November 1987, “with the headphones on”. Even though starting later than most, Mark shoots ahead and at the age of 17 starts his career by being playing the leading parthenopean clubs. He began his first productions after being heavily influenced by Thomas Pardo, a leading DJ. Later becoming good friends Thomas has supported Mark ever since. This relationship has developed Marks music, which in the beginning was influenced heavily by tribal music. He has moved away from his earlier more commercial music, now preferring electronic and minimal sounds stretching to techno also. He varies his live sets, switching between tech-house to progressive-house, also touching on hard techno and german minimal, showing appreciation for electro music. He remains a big supporter of producers like Riccardo Villalobos, Anthony Collins, his fellow-citizens Marco Carola, Cerrone, Vigorito and sacred monsters like Richie Hawtin . He started to produce in 2006, and is still engaged in his own frenetic and unremitting style of producing, on the brink of his first release.  He is now working full time for his label, Ketra Records.  Full power the 2010 for Mark, he spent a lot of time in his studio last year and now is time to take his prize.
