From now on, any new tracks I make will only be released on SoundCloud & Bandcamp, as I am a lot more focused on my art, writing & animation stuff; maybe eventually I'll release this song on other platforms.

With that said, here's the first completed track I've done in Ableton & by far one of my favourite songs I've done. Dark & melancholic, but still groovy & melodic. Also, yes that is the Motorola ringtone sampled at the beginning. Wanted to add a hint of nostalgia to it.

Originally written in 2006, at which time it had a very different title - "China."   Was heading there then, to live for about a year, and the song was all about going somewhere else, but as I'm not heading there now I've adjusted it, and made it more relevant to me, as of 2023 at least, which may also make it a little more relatable to other people.

I remember playing this to a friend in China, in 2006, who, when I got to a certain part of the song, burst out laughing, saying he's never heard anything so  dreadfully "cliche."  It was the second verse, for some reason, the mention of traffic maybe, and despite that I've left it as it was just there, pretty much, mainly because I enjoy that memory being triggered once in a while.  Tweaked it a little, but not a whole lot, cliche or not!

It was a big old bustling piano track way back then, as far as the accompaniment was concerned, and a bit too busy in that regard, and not much of an easy listen.  I think it's better like this, though admittedly it's no less busy, just busy in a different way.   No part of the original arrangement is present here, something I normally like to do for my older songs, all parts for this one put together in 2023. 

I like this arrangement a lot more, some 17 years later.   My sense of time flying really ramps up when I return to these older songs of mine, to refresh them! 

As for the art work, shouldn't call it that, 'ai prompt generated picture smash up,' I found what it came up with amusing.  Was hoping for something a little nicer, but liked it enough! 

Unfortunately, the original upload of this track was a little to be desired mix, since adjusted, but now I'm hearing other things I want to change! 🙄
