Flicker and Flame represents the last LRDEE album before I stepped into a personal solo hiatus — a quiet break to breathe, reset, and find myself again. It was only later, when Danie van Schalkwyk approached me with the idea of creating something new, that the spark returned. That moment became the foundation of Leo Roland and the Fireverse.

But Flicker and Flame… that was our final LRDEE masterwork.

This album tells the full cinematic journey of a young South African man torn from his family by the outbreak of war. He begins as a teenager in love, marries young, and becomes a father — until duty calls him away. Across the album, his letters home, fading memories, and the music that keeps him alive guide him through battles, trauma, unlikely friendships, and a devastating blast that makes his wife believe he never made it back.

Years later, when he returns home, he finds a life that moved on without him — a wife who rebuilt her world with a gentle, dependable man, and a daughter who no longer recognises him. Broken by the truth, he turns away completely, choosing silence over reopening old wounds.

Every track carries a fragment of that journey — the love, the loss, the war, the hope, and the moment the flame fades into darkness.

Flicker and Flame was LRDEE’s last chapter before everything changed.
And from that ending, a new era rose — Leo Roland and the Fireverse.

Jeremy Ryan Martin is a solo rock artist with a sound forged through raw emotion, real-life struggle, and years of hands-on experience in the underground music scene. His passion for music began at 13, when he formed his first band with middle school friends in the early ’90s. By 17, he was already writing original songs and fronting local rock groups, honing his voice and presence on stage.

Throughout his 20s and 30s, Jeremy played in several rock-driven projects, spending countless hours in recording studios learning the craft of mixing and production from seasoned audio engineers and musicians. A self-taught songwriter shaped by hardship, he grew up with a single mom and younger brother, often turning to his guitar as a way to cope and make sense of life.

Jeremy draws inspiration from the gritty rock legends he grew up on—Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Candlebox, and other icons of the late ’80s and early ’90s. While those influences echo through his music, it’s his unique voice and deeply personal songwriting that set him apart. Every track he creates is a reflection of resilience, struggle, and healing.
