Chasing The Black Star

Life comes at you really fast. 

In the span of just 6 months, a lot of things that I took for granted just vanished. 

Physical & mental health, Job security, happiness, plans & projects for the year, everything crumbled bit by bit, eating away at my natural optimism, challenging my beliefs about my actions and demolishing my self confidence.

Luckily for me, one of the things that stayed was the ability to express myself during one of my all night long sets at La Releve. Playing music for people is such a huge opportunity, and I am continuously working to bring my A-game everytime to make sure that chance does not go to waste. 

With my life taking unexpected turn after turn, I decided that life was too short to try to conform to what the "scene" expects of us, and instead put a strong emphasis on always bringing exciting stuff to the club, and not becoming "your average techno DJ". That means playing what excites my ears in a way that makes sense to me, no BS & no limits : House, Techno, Breakbeats, Dub, experimental stuff, popular stuff, undercover gems, old hits and newish bangers, you name it, I play it. 

This is the path I'm taking going forward.

As a lot of people find themselves alone at home due to the lockdown following the COVID-19 disease, a lot of musicians are devoid of gigs and some of them even without any revenues. 

So we are seeing a big attention game being played, especially in the techno scene where people, out of true need for cash or desire to catch the eye of a new audience, are competing for people's attention. I found myself drown in a sea of new music and livestreams, and, I admit, I felt a little lost. 

I did not want to compete for views because some people really need those, but I really wanted to do something for people to enjoy, and create some kind of oasis of peace amidst this digital chaos. Do something weird, different, but good.

So, instead of making a regular techno / hard stuff podcast like you would expect from me (don't panic, there will be more !), I figured I could show another side of my musical personality. I felt like I could make something different by showcasing the work of people who felt the exact same way as I did : "Fuck it, let's go Ambiant". Just like they thought at the time, it's not going to help me find gigs nor help me make money, but I sure hope something of artistic value will be created. 

Sounds to fall asleep to, or exciting new trip for adventurous ears ? I let you be the judge.

Alors que beaucoup de gens sont bloqués chez eux en confinement à cause du COVID-19, de nombreux musiciens n'ont plus de gigs, et pour certains, plus de revenus. 

En ce moment se joue donc une guerre pour l'attention du public sur les réseaux, surtout dans la scène techno, où, par vrai manque d'argent ou par désir d'attirer de nouveaux auditeurs, beaucoup de DJs et d'artistes rivalisent de créativité lors de streams, unreleased challenges et plus encore. Au milieu de toute cette énergie pourtant positive, je me suis senti perdu.

Je ne veux pas rentrer en compétition pour les likes ou les vues parce que la vie de certains en dépend, mais je voulais quand même profiter de cette opportunité pour créer quelque chose que dont les gens auraient besoin sans le savoir, une oasis de paix dans ce chaos digital. Quelque chose de différent, loin de l'avalanche de kicks traditionnels.

Donc, au lieu de faire un podcast classique techno / hardcore comme vous l'auriez attendu (rassurez-vous il y en aura d'autres), je profite de l'occasion pour vous montrer une autre facette de ma musique. J'ai voulu faire quelque chose de différent avec les travaux de ceux qui ont un jour comme moi dit : "Rien à foutre, je vais faire de l'Ambiant". Et comme ils l'ont eux même dit, ca ne fera pas plus d'argent, et ca ne me facilitera pas les gigs, ce n'est pas très pro, mais j'espère que quelque chose d'une certaine valeur artistique sortira de ce projet.

Pour s'endormir, ou pour une nouvelle aventure sonique ? Je vous laisse juger.
