Barcelona/Berlin soundclash alert! Two of our favourite cities, both electronic music epicentres, are front and centre as SEL133 drives into town with Squire at the wheel and Hannes Bieger on co-pilot duty. 

Regular holidays to Ibiza as a teenager inspired Squire’s (aka Jaime Algersuari) love of house and techno and so began his pursuit of a life behind the decks. Such was his passion, he actually chose music over a highly promising career as a Formula 1 driver and F1’s loss proved clubland’s gain as Jaime has blossomed into a highly sought-after producer with releases across labels such as Mobilee, Einmusika and Get Physical. 
In pole position here, ’True Religion’ leads from the front showcasing Squire’s trademark sound: Deep, hook-laden synth riffs and indie vocal stylings riding a growling bassline, menacing and uplifting in equal measure, entirely befitting of this most welcome of Selador debuts.  

Also gracing the label for the first time, we are delighted to welcome Hannes Bieger aboard. Having carved a niche as one of Europe’s most in-demand mixing engineers, recent years have seen Hannes releasing his own productions for the likes of Bedrock and Poker Flat, and the fabulous ‘Poem For The Planet’ on Awesome Soundwave. His ‘True Religion’ re-work is another perfect specimen of a master craftsman at work. 
The release is then crowned by another superb original work from Squire. ‘Glowing’ is another call to the floor helmed by what we reckon is one of the most memorable synth lines of the year to date. Step on it!

As the northern hemisphere awakens from winter slumbers, SUZé creates "Late-blooming"; a vibrant spring awakening from the interconnected waterways that grow out of the Elbe like tree branches. Free-flowing analogue melodies glide like tendrils across a root system of heavy beat and percussive intent. Continuing a "Truly" powerful narrative, rapid rolling bassline paves the way for clipped melodies to blossom into a rousing symphony of colour and vitality. Raw energy prevails in hypnotic beauty and subtle white noise infusions.

A return to familiar waters, the distance between Europe and South Africa vanishes through LADS' musical mastery, while seasonal inverse converges in deep "Late-blooming". Always intelligent, motifs flurry in characteristic innovative fashion. A new story emerges, full of glorious technicolour rooted in SUZé's work. At the height of production powers, Subandrio creates anther "Truly" impressive remix. From the western edge of a teardrop island, organic motifs, elegant effects and brooding bassline capture a distinctive style. Full of progressive power it glitters in pulsating, crashing waves of sound across Colombo coastline.

Fur Coat’s Oddity label starts 2021 with a fresh edition of the acclaimed various artists “Odd Echoes Vol.4”. This instalment showcases some artists that are already known to the label, as well as many new additions to the family.

Fur Coat’s commitment to their label over the last few years has seen the imprint amass a dedicated following and an ever growing list of respected and lauded releases. Utilising their Various Artists compilations, the duo have unearthed some extremely exciting talent in this world and given emerging artists a platform to exhibit their craft.

Diving into the package we are greeted with the melodic and emotional sounds that Oddity has their recognisable stamp. Its clear though that each artist involved has developed their own signature sound and presents something unique to the VA. The first half is formed of well crafted tracks which ease us into the sound. Tracks the build and develop over time and help to kick start out musical exploration.

In true Oddity style the second half of the package leans towards darker and more driving pieces. Casting the listeners mind to the dancefloors which the tracks were meant to be played on. Its a VA formed of 21 original tracks mostly from first timers on the label, that all together solidify the identity of the series and sound of Oddity.

Premiere: Fur Coat - The Mist [Renaissance]

Renaissance present the return of Fur Coat and the third single to be taken from their critically acclaimed album ‘Polyphony’.

‘The Storm’ EP features one of the album’s most successful cuts, ’Eye Of The Storm’, with the much sought-after vocal talents of Delhia De France; and ‘The Mist’, a new track Fur Coat wrote exclusively for the EP.

“I was in the studio working on new ideas for 2021,” explains Fur Coat’s Sergio regarding the new track, “and wanted something emotional, with a positive mood that made people dance at the same time. Although we are still living with restrictions and lockdown, you have to keep the motivation and hope for the better times ahead.”

Meanwhile, ‘Eye Of The Storm’, which is a 110 BPM sultry, downtempo affair in original album guise, receives the full club treatment courtesy of leading producers Nico Stojan and MODEM. 

Nico Stojan needs little introduction, with a long history of releasing on the world’s best labels. The ethereal remix is redolent in his beautiful, deep, electronic style and will no doubt have broad appeal.

PREMIERE: Remains Of Silence - Athos (Original Mix) [Us&Them]

Renaissance are delighted to announce their first ever various artists (V/A) EP!

It may seem strange to say that, but it’s true, in all of the brand’s near thirty-year history, it has never dipped its toe in the water of V/As. The ‘Merin’ EP (FYI, Merin is Yoruba for four) will - you guessed it - always feature four key cuts from the planet’s best and marks its debut with a diverse haul that looks across three continents to present a multi-genre package.

Freshly minted from his Øostil partnership, Mexico’s HeÎk demonstrates his solo-studio prowess with ‘Eunoia’, a powerful, yet beautiful melodic techno ride; Holland’s Rob Hes provides ‘Undivided’, which has a similar style and feel so we guess you could consider it a Europe vs South America MH&T-showdown. The winner, of course, is entirely up to you!

The other half of the package goes solely to Canada and comes courtesy of three of the Montreal’s brightest talents - UNDERHER & Shades Of Blk and Woe. UNDERHER’s collaboration with Shades Of Blk, ‘Yesterday’, further confirms his status as one of the finest vocal-driven producers at work today; featuring the haunting vocals of Eleonora, the track walks the deft line between deep and organic, and will likely find favour with both camps. Woe on the other hand, takes things into indie territory with ‘Episode’, a twisted, dark, arp-infused composition that will no doubt delight and terrify in equal measure.
