XYZ and When We Dip present the Selectors series, where we give our family of producers an opportunity to display their prowess behind the decks. Expect unreleased material from across the label collective, as well as classic gems and heady grooves from some of the undergrounds finest heads.

To celebrate the 100th episode of Selectors, XYZ welcomes none other than Budakid. The Dutch producer was the very first artist to release on the label, with his ’Quixotic’ EP back in 2018. It’s only right that almost 5 years later, he’s the one to offer an exclusive mix to celebrate this occasion.

I decided with this longer style mix, that I would chose a lot of tracks old and new, some well known and many not so much, all of varying housey vibes, some vocal and deeper, while some get acidic and tougher, but always with a house slant. I suppose its kind of music that I would play back at an after party, and delving deep with lots of gems that I play in my sets. 

I’ve been a DJ since the late 80’s, so as you can imagine, I’ve amassed a heck of a lot of music, so I love to play older tracks, that may spark a memory, or give a particular flavour of sound from a certain era, creating a certain mood, and then I like to gently shift vibes thought the mixes, keeping you groovin’, but with a chunkiness at times, rather than keeping to one specific flavour throughout. There’s so much music around, and some of it comes and goes in a matter of weeks, and so I wanted to bring a light on some of these tracks, while interspersing with fresh tracks.

We really pull out the big guns with this month’s TSOR! RÜFÜS DU SOL, Keinemusik, Adriatique, WhoMadeWho, Moderat, Max Cooper, Yør Kultura, Traumer, plus more all make it into the mix.

Joining them is the usual cavalcade from our label; Samer Soltan appears twice - ‘Time Machine‘ gets a super-cool electronica rework from Mehill, whilst Squire and his Pole Position alter-ego (with partner Loic Brunch) go full tribal Tenaglia-vibes with their highly creative take on ‘Is This A Dream?’. Also double-dropping is David Granha whose ‘No More’ comes remixed by Maori, hot from the breakout success of ‘Spring Girl’, alongside ‘Kalopsia’, which is one of the most beautiful breaks records you’re likely to hear this year and more than justifies finale-honours as it closes out the mix.

Last December, I played at Stereobar in my hometown Montreal… in the middle of my set someone threw $100 on the decks, gave me a thumbs up, and just disappeared in the crowd. 😂 I’ve never experienced this before and DJs don’t usually receive tips but not complaining and shoutout to you if you’re reading this, you made my night!

That gig was so so special and I decided to record my set. Just posted the second part of the set. We kept the crowd's sound so that somehow you can feel a bit of that magic vibe.
