This week in the mix is Koboro, the London-born DJ & co-founder of Elicit Records – a new label co-founded by himself & Kessler to champion forward thinking electronic music with an emphasis on giving a platform to lesser-known artists. As always, we first caught up to hear about the mix & what he’s been up to…

There’s been lots of behind-the-scenes work getting Elicit out into the world, which has been in the works since late 2022. After many delays, it was a big relief to officially launch back in October with Eddy’s EP Lunar, which if you haven’t checked out already go do so now (its nuts!!). We’ve also just recently dropped a 12-track compilation and the feedback has been seriously amazing.

In more recent news, we just threw a fundraising party last week for Sudan in collaboration with two amazing labels, Amity Club and SSS, who are run by amazing close friends of mine who happen to also be some very talented individuals. Sudan is currently undergoing a massive humanitarian crisis and I really hope to see more people talking about it.

The mix was recorded in Pirate studios on a set of cdj 2000’s and a djm900nxs2 mixer, not exactly ideal but the home set up is currently undergoing a makeover lol. I had actually borrowed a controller from my friend to get this recorded initially but didn’t bother with it in the end as I still just don’t like the feel of controllers. 

It’s definitely a power hour and gets straight to business. Lots of bass and percussion and gets quite deep at times, a pretty solid reflection of the type of music I’ve been enjoying playing in the club lately. The mix features a blend of (mostly) newer and forthcoming music including some unreleased Elicit bits.

This week’s AVA mix is a very special entry to the series, from a true house music legend. Over the past 40-odd years, Kerri Chandler has undoubtedly helped shape the electronic music landscape. Hailing from East Orange, New Jersey, Chandler was exposed to music at a young age through his father, a well-known DJ. His love of music was encouraged by this early exposure, which prepared him for his future vocation.

Chandler's career started in the late 1980s, and he soon gained recognition for his distinctive style, which combines house music with jazz, soul, and gospel influences. His 1990 breakthrough track, "SuperLover/Get It Off," signalled the beginning of an incredibly successful career.

In addition to producing, Chandler is renowned for his energetic DJ sets, which frequently feature live components and his distinctive usage of drum machines. In 1992 he co-founded Madhouse Records along with a Dublin-based music entrepreneur Mel Medalie. This platform played a pivotal role in advancing house music and nurturing new talent in Ireland and all around the world. 

This year Kerri Chandler returns to Belfast for the first time in over a decade as part of our 10th birthday celebrations.

Blending influences from Speed Garage, UK House, Rave and Breakbeat, you get the right kind of cocktail that defines Renceau’s sound, winning over more and more hearts wherever he plays.

Hailing from Leeuwarden, Renceau is steadily getting his name heard across the country. 2024 started off with a set in The Boom Room on Slam FM and meanwhile his own productions are gaining traction with the bigger names.

As a DJ he is obsessed about finding that one white label record to rule them all, he is a true purist at heart who makes no compromises on quality and danceability. Constantly broadening his perspective, and spending hours in the crates, his library of dancefloor killers that put a smile on your face keeps growing.

2024 promises more shows in Nijmegen, Groningen, Amsterdam, and of course his hometown Leeuwarden, and more releases, pushing forward his rave-infused uptempo house. It seems clear that he’s beginning to pave the way for a bright future.

Tracks and sets played on various stations like 3FM, Rinse France and Operator Radio, and in clubs such as Atelier Amsterdam and Renate Berlin.
