"Curiosity is what I miss the most from childhood years. By being constantly curious we keep discovering new things, we focus on the best ones and carry them forever during our life.
The more we discover the more we enrich our mind and shape our personality.
Through reading a book with a funny cover found on the street or listening to some cd’s stored in a dusty box we can start a passion that will last forever.
With 'Rescript', I try to get back that curiosity into my life: all the problems in life disappear, I am now free to use that cultural baggage that I carried with myself for long time but never truly opened.

These 4 tracks show where I culturally come from and where I am heading to: from clubbing and raving in Rome in the early 2000, exploring the London underground bass music scene during my 20’s till finally moving to Berlin and opening up to its techno state of mind.
The old script is now replaced with something that unties myself from a specific genre and makes me curious about what could happen if I mix all the sonic ingredients that are stored in my mind."

"My creativity is constantly ebbing and flowing. I go through months of experimentation, learning new tools, banging my head up against the wall with endless versions of tunes I’m just not happy with. And then, if I’m lucky, I hit a patch of several tunes coming together quickly. This EP was exactly that: three tunes that came together completely unexpectedly in a relatively short period of time. All of the new techniques finally melded with my mindset after a long stint of frustration and unproductiveness. No v27c, no overthinking it, just pure vibes and pieces falling into place. I had so much fun making these and I wish I knew the secret sauce for hitting that sweet spot in the studio regularly. I guess you just gotta power through the muck until the inspiration ambushes you and enjoy it while it lasts."

Counting from one to ten is one of the first things we learn when we try to speak a new language. It's also a universal language we use in our beats. Numbers are the inspiration source of this album, and its roots are in the inherent rhythmical existence of numbers in music. There is a numerical theme in all the tracks. Every number matches with different grooves and rhythms, and it all comes together around a single “groove pallet”.

The Rabbit, according to the Chinese lunar calendar, symbolizes longevity, peace, and most suitable for the Unchained trajectory, creativity.  

Each year we set out to collate a mélange of ambiguous club-ready electronic whilst doing our part to cross that apparent divide between drum ‘n’ bass, jungle, footwork, grime and other members of the extended bass family.

We haven’t always been wed to the massive banger alone, but we have to admit, we always will be obsessed. We don’t consider ourselves possessed by sonic slabs that are looped beyond recognition, but we hold them in high regard just the same. 

So with that in mind, curating the Year of the Rabbit compilation took some time this year.

The Year Of The Rabbit showcases artists both emerging and established from China, Russia, England, Holland, and the United States. Be it wonky, divergent, mutant, deep, or simply in the vein of the pure epic club banger, every producer has something remarkable and distinctive going on.

The ear itself is a composer, it always writes and reads acoustic events, constantly searching for the next impulse. Pursued by the recurring desire to hit the right nerve. To get inside your head. Silence, a charming illusion of our brain, which has little to do with reality. What remains is perception, which is never an image of truth, but always what our brain makes of it.”

alllone - Intensity (A.Fruit Remix)

After 20 years of being in power, the Autocrat changed the Constitution to keep ruling until 2036. People were already so apolitical that they had nothing to object to; they only wanted nothing to change so they said "Okay". But things did change according to the laws of life, about which people knew nothing. The Autocrat has started an aggressive war against their neighbour, convincing the population that everyone around is an enemy. He deprived the people of rights, he filled all prisons with political prisoners and released murderers, then he built new prisons for those who still had hearts and minds of their own. For those who remained outside, he set up video surveillance, and the slightest step out of line led to threats of imprisonment. People began to fear and hate their own children and everyone they could see. They took pleasure in killing and torturing one another. By 2036 the land was drenched in blood and destroyed by toxic waste, and those who were still alive felt "Okay" because they still had the right to die silently.

The title track of Aria Rostami’s ‘Water From The River’ album kicks off in a rousing fashion with quick beats and celestial melodies, all lifting you off your feet and placing you up amongst the stars. 'Red of the Burning Wood' is a dense collage of percussive loops, fractured R&B vocals, and heavenly chords that suspend mid-air. Then, 'Gandom' offers more compelling broken beats and meticulously layered percussive sounds, watery synths, and muffled vocals that offer many different focal points.

'Esfand' on Rostami’s ‘Water From The River’ ups the energy levels further and is a hyper-speed rhythmic workout with shimmering pads and tightly interwoven layers of drums, while 'Water Returning' is an ambient interlude that allows you to catch your breath. 'Farvardin' once again takes off on fantastically intricate jungle rhythms and deft drum programming that is organic and alive, after which 'White of the Burning Forest' shuts down with another impossibly vibrant and lively mix of groove and tropical sound designs that keep you afloat amongst smeared cosmic pads.

"I think of Water from the River as a protest record to some extent but more on the level of the human experience of being caught up in forces. The larger world pushes in one direction, the ambitions of people pushing in other ways and you as a singular human caught in the tides - like water from the river carving through a boulder over time and being swept away with it towards something else." - Aria Rostami

Brooklyn-based Aria Rostami has been releasing music since 2011 and, since then, has released on esteemed labels like Dark Entries, Geographic North and Spring Theory, both solo and in collaboration with the likes of Saint Abdullah, El Joven and Daniel Blomquist. His beat-driven electronic music is often conceptual, draws on a wide range of influences and is made using predominantly hardware.
