Coming off a very exciting weekend with the whole Soulection crew. We just played about 4 events in a course of 5 days. We are a bit drained from all the constant shows, but the music is keeping us moving strong. Shouts to Mr. Carmack and The Crosby as well as Delicious Vinyl. We just want to thank Delicious Vinyl for embracing us and giving us a platform. Shouts to Kaytranada and the whole HW&W crew as well. We went to support Kaytranada at his LA show recently and left really inspired by his set.

Had to start this show with a new unreleased gem from Kaytra and play all the classics/unreleased material as usual. Esta finally stopped by to drop an official set and talk about what's next for him. He really impressed us with his house vibes. This man is diverse. Andres also came through and graced us with a heavy hitter set. Spread this if you feel it.

Soulection Radio Show #140 w/ Esta & Andres

Dense & Pika celebrate a hat-trick of releases on their Hotflush home with a display of mercurial melodic flair.

With all the hallmark analogue, dust-treated sounds, the record kicks into gear with the unpredictably lush piano refrain of ‘Colt’, betraying a level of sensitivity not normally associated with the boldly direct duo.

Elsewhere, they’re as visceral as expected. ‘Black Deep' a demonic workout, all kitchen-sink percussion and body-blow bass, whilst 'Vomee' cruises along a bed of sparse atmospherics, dub-indebted stabs and bastardised vocals. 

Rounding off the EP is their most refined work to date. 'Airless (Live)' recorded in one take with live percussionists, woodwind and modular synthesizers, exhibiting their latent versatility and teasing at the possibilities yet to come.

Once again Danse Club Records have unearthed a forgotten and sorely overlooked house track here, then they have enlisted a fine pair of contemporary producers – Sqim and Deepchild - to remix it and bring it right up to date. The original, ‘Who’s Dick Is This’ is a 1994 kicking house bomb by the mysterious Princess Di, who released but three EPs during the 90s on Music Station with this track being the pick of the bunch.

German producer Sqim is associated with labels like Exploited and Play It Down and firstly offers up a Ghetto Mix of the track. The result is a big and physical house track with sleazy samples, heavyweight drums and a kinetic energy throughout.

The warm up mix by the same man is a much deeper affair, as you’d expect from the name. This one resides in a much warmer and more inviting groove and is coloured with deft synths as it slowly builds in phases. The elastic vocals dart about above the drums, bringing with them a lively sense of soul and funk before Deepchild offers his own two unique versions.

From quirky, stripped-back techno injected with soul to deep, dub-inflected excursions, Berlin based Australian Deepchild can do it all. Here he offers his ‘Cockumentary Retug’ a ragged and raging techno version riddled with spoken word samples culled from a documentary about penis size. Its dark and involving and sure will get great reactions on the floor.

The final version is a straight dub that journeys in a heavy groove, has some weird spoken word snippets melted into it and is lit up with some celestial synth patterns in the latter half.

Another great find by Danse Club complemented by some choice remixes adds up to yet another essential release from this ever more impressive label.

Since early 2013, producer Rawaat has been running the stealthy DIY tape label Crisis Urbana (http://crisisurbana.bandcamp.com/) out of the techno heartland of Detroit. Releasing cassettes from a local collective of Detroit musicians, they are taking the region’s house and techno provenance and discharging it through ambient and noise dispatches. Rawaat’s debut vinyl release ‘Day Laborer’ is due on East London’s <a href="https://www.facebook.com/LobsterTheremin">Lobster Theremin </a>label. Founded in October 2013 by Jimmy Asquith, the Lobster Theremin mission statement is to "provide a platform for new and emerging international artists of a tougher aural leaning". Asquith has spun the label out of the ‘Find Me In The Dark’ parties at Corsica Studios, which arrived last year with a heavyweight debut featuring underground legends Omar S and Kassem Mosse. This is the fifth release from the label (alongside 12”s from Steve Murphy, Snow Bone, Manse, Route 8, and a striking electro debut from Palms Trax) Rawaat has turned out unrefined deeply experimental Detroit techno. Lobster Theremin have reached out to the heralded Kansas City based producer Huerco S. to remix, he has submerged the track in his emblematic haze of tape delay and cocooned this in flickering tech-house. Rapidly rising as a label, Lobster Theremin is sitting comfortable amongst pioneering experimental house mavens L.I.E.S, Mister Saturday Night and Trilogy Tapes.
