Almost exactly a year on from his career-defining "Sunchaser" EP, one of YANA music's core artists Aktive returns with the ominous "Obey Or Die".

Being one of his own and YANA's biggest tracks to date, "Sunchaser" leant heavily on euphoric, hands-up melodies, whilst "Obey Or Die" take's Shane's sound in a darker direction. Very current in regards to today's social and political climate, this track is a statement, made bold with the authoritarian text-to-speech vocals and epic synth riff.

Already receiving strong support from the likes of Koven, Dan Aux, Toronto Is Broken, Futurebound and more recently featuring on Rene LaVice's DeVice imprint, Aktive shows his true finesse as a dancefloor producer and sets himself up for a defining 2021. Aktive also collaborated with label head TIB on the cinematic "Letters Goodbye" as part of TIB's album "Clare", which also featured Christina Rotondo on vocal duties.

Over the last 18 years Viper Recordings have become synonymous with exceptional A&R, the quickest of flicks through our back catalog showcases a plethora of the scene's biggest names. Fans of the Viper radio will know the Future Fire concept, a moment in the show where Futurebound introduces us to drum and bass’s most promising acts, now here at Viper Recordings we’re taking it a step further and releasing a whole EP filled with the hottest new talent exclusively selected by the head honcho.

After debuting tracks from both DEAD WAX and Blackley ft. MC Dino on the recent sampler,
the next part of the EP’s selection starts with Twentytwo, with Elipsa on vocals for opening record ‘Energy’. With Elipsa’s dreamlike vocals sifting in and out of the mix, it’s easy to see why Twentytwo is gaining a reputation for merging soulful production with moodier underpinnings. Grinding bass channels smash through the mix despite its emotive build up and it shows a different flavor to an already impactful release.

Finishing the ‘Future Fire’ EP are the pounding dancefloor sounds of Houndeye’s ‘Falling Awake’. Adding another diverse yet hard-hitting take to the EP’s tracklist, Houndeye goes for the jugular with his offering. Filled with slamming drums and synth-led breakdowns, it highlights a flipside to Houndeye’s usually more laid back rhythms.

The combined heavyweight forces of @CrissyCriss and @TCdnb have already proven to be an unstoppable force. Individually they’ve demonstrated this throughout their illustrious careers, although their recent collaboration ‘Dark Mode’ shows what can happen when the two production heavyweights merge their enviable talents. Released through Crissy Criss’ ‘War on Silence’ imprint, which has given him complete creative control and has enabled him to unleash his recent, similarly titled album, TC isn’t the only pivotal figure who’s made an appearance on the label. And this is why, even over such a short space of time, the imprint has received global attention. After Crissy Criss’ stint on BBC Radio 1, where he spearheaded one of the most imperative drum & bass shows within the scene’s history, this comes as little surprise too. However it’s the music which has been released on @WarOnSilence which has proven to be just as successful. One look at Crissy’ debut LP on the label demonstrates this fact, with one of its lead singles ‘Real’ with WiDEAWAKE gaining a position on Radio 1’s daytime playlist and amassing millions of streams via the Spotify platform.

However, contrary to the commercial viability of tracks like ‘Real’, TC and Crissy come with something much darker. Their next collaboration ‘FIRE’ is a testament to this and it’s one which is aptly named. Pushing through with chaotic drum breaks and featuring Bristol based Carasel on vocals, it’s a call to arms and one which will certainly make its presence known across dancefloors internationally. It’s the perfect record to continue festival season with; Crissy has already detonated this cut throughout the touring market and fans both old and new will recognise this set list monster. There’s an array of artists brought into ‘FIRE’ and it shows the influence which Crissy has within the drum & bass world. He’s able to bring on board names of this level and as a result, provide the most raucous slammers.

A little bit about René LaVice

From the humble beginnings of finding out about Drum & Bass music via the late night broadcasts on Toronto’s College Radio stations (88.1FM & 89.5FM) while growing up, René has travelled worlds away from where he started. Flash forward a decade or so, René’s own productions are now hailed around the world as some of the genre’s most iconic and innovative records in electronic dance music. He’s flown worldwide performing shows and cultivating the sound of Drum & Bass as a true tastemaker and leader in the genre. 

As though coming full circle, René was approached by the BBC about creating his own specialist show on Radio 1, so in 2017, following in the footsteps of legendary former hosts Fabio & Grooverider, and Friction, René is now the Drum & Bass representative on the world’s biggest platform. 
 
As a producer, René LaVice’s sounds are unmistakable. Known for combining different styles and influences with his own sensibility, his music has a thumbprint which stands out in the mix. Nowhere could this be more evident than in his first breakthrough track ‘Headlock,’ which took the scene by storm and turned heads of tastemakers worldwide onto what would soon become one of dance music’s most exciting producers. Since then, René’s made a string of hits, such as The Calling ft. Ivy Mairi, a musical hybrid unlike any other which was A-Listed on Radio 1 for weeks and hit the billboard top 40 dance chart. 

Renowned for his remix track record and ability to turn a song upside down, he has remixed an impressive roster of artists such as Diplo, DJ Fresh, Craig David & The Prodigy, making him a highly sought after remix artist.  He released 3 albums on the illustrious Ram Records which earned him the respect of young fans and veteran DJ’s alike. 

Having the support of touring Drum & Bass royalty such as Andy C, Goldie & Randall combined with attention from Radio presenters and tastemakers such as Annie Mac, Mistajam, Zane Lowe, Nick Grimshaw, Greg James, and Scott Mills is like a dream to any young producer and René’s skills as a performer and a DJ have been consolidated thanks to touring all around the globe and turning even the most unlikely shows upside down. Known for crowdsurfing at his gigs, he may sound like a bit of 
an anomaly when it comes to dance music. The excitement he feels from his music is as captivating as it is infectious. Having performed shows at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Download, EDC, and world class venues like Brixton Academy, Fabric, and Alexandra Palace, René has evolved into one of the most exciting headlining acts in dance music. 

Now living in London, UK, one can only speculate where René LaVice’s journey through music will lead next.
