René - Love That I Feel

Freshly cut funk with feeling. 
Home grown in the North.

The René story already has a long history, beginning in the early nineties where Joe and his younger sister Emma recorded original songs on a four-track sequencer. Most of these creations were heavily influenced by Joe’s love of the Acid Jazz movement and seventies funk, and he helped Emma develop a ‘big voice’ for a very little person. With life getting in the way most of these perfect little pop songs got abandoned and forgotten. That was until a later meeting with Dr. Jon, Altrincham’s most abstract dancer and awesome bass player, saw them being rediscovered and rearranged. And so René began in earnest...

We were then lucky enough to have three more amazing musicians, Dave, Karl and Sally, join the band, and the music, as well as our friendships, went from strength to strength. Today we continue to create and perform music together, drink copious amounts of coffee (or sometimes Sambuca!) and pontificate on the need for a funk soul revival. Not only do we know our music, we love it too.

Over the past five years we have performed our original funk at venues across Britain. In our home town of Manchester we've notably played at Band On The Wall, Matt & Phreds, The Academy, The Deaf Institute and Bloom Live. Further afield, we've played at The HiFi Club (Leeds), The Yardbird (Birmingham), The Jazz Bar (Edinburgh), Alexanders (Chester) and Cabin 5150 (Macclesfield).  Our festival appearances have included Groove On The Green (Liverpool), Ramsbottom Festival (Lancashire), Lancaster Music Festival (Lancashire), Hyde Splendid Weekend (Manchester) and the Limetree Festival (Yorkshire).

Currently we are releasing a new EP and our first music video for the song ‘One More Day’ and hope to continue to make people smile with our ‘fabulously freaky foot tapping funk’
