Between new techno stuffs but also old school and classic techno, driving rhythms, and trippy stuffs, and some emotional trancy tracks which are special to my eyes. I hope you will like it as much as I enjoyed to play there. Fusion best festival ever! Forever in my heart <3

A look back at Philippa Pacho’s profound performance in our Room 01 at the positivesource showcase, which she co-founded hand in hand with Blue Hour. The Stockholm-born artist delivered a knife-edged vision to techno during a two-hour memorable set at her imprint night in Fuse.
 
Like a gentle hold, Philippa's narration is as tactile as poignant. Dark without being obscure, musing yet energetic, no one can doubt the decade of musicality that has flowed through her veins ever since. Drawn to sharp kicks or a few clipped vocals here and there, Philippa Pacho's mix is an invitation, or even more an exploration, to a complex and appealing inner world. A stand-out.

Sam Coates took to techno like a diligent pupil, falling in love with the genre through labels like CLR in the late '00s. It didn't take long for the student to surpass his proverbial teachers. Almost immediately, the Manchester native was putting out pitch-perfect, functional techno records with everything intricately balanced. The requisite move to Berlin only sealed his fate as a future techno luminary, and by now, based in Kyiv, he's one of techno's most reliable, yet exciting, workhorses. Setaoc Mass records (and those on his label, SK_eleven) are minimalist but colossal, deceptively simple but not easy to pull off. 

We've praised him in these pages for his "sense of economy—how to get the hardest impact out of just a few elements," and that's the idea behind his RA Podcast as well. Put together from records old and new, and intricately layered, Coates's mix is like a time-travelling wormhole connecting disparate eras from techno, and highlighting the genre's most timeless attributes: mechanistic rhythms, careful pacing, rudimentary melodies made out of the strangest sounds and, of course, the power of the bass drop. It's hard to imagine anything that sounds more capital-T techno than this mix, which is a high compliment. It's easy to hear why his records and DJ sets are only more in demand from techno heads across the geographical and generational spectrum.

For my return to Open Ground, I had the idea to record my full set and post it online. Nothing can really describe that club, the sound system, the room accoustics, the way everything has been designed just breathes passion and dedication. Just amazing crew and always a treat to come back there.
The vibe there was absolutely amazing, and I guess you really just have to experience it on the spot to really get what it's like. 

But yea, here's the 3h30 journey we've embarked on there this 8th May, and I hope you enjoy it !

For BASEMENT 008, we've turned things over to Holden Federico.   A favorite of the NY underground, Federico holds a reputation both for his comprehensive knowledge of techno's most obscure corners and for his capacity to channel his sprawling collection into DJ sets of exceptional poise and vibrancy. Raised in Pennsylvania, an early fascination with software production led him from live music into an obsession with track building and the limitless possibilities of electronic music. In 2020, he launched @90stechno.redux, an online platform that catalogues some of the finest, and often nearly-unheard, examples of the genre's golden age. Drawing heavily on the Detroit-Berlin axis, Federico exemplifies the focus and discernment of a purist, engaging with techno both as a true art form and as a near-spiritual discipline.

I Will Always Love You

Love, peace and unity – the famous words of a movement that very much attracted Rove Ranger as a child to electronic music. Listening to early Schranz and Techno back then, it is no wonder that the sound of Rove Ranger is defined by fast-paced percussions and high energy.
Starting out as a producer in late 2007, he extended his musical spectrum over the years from EBM and Industrial to the likes of modern Techno. Always striving in musical variation, he started Rove Ranger aside his previous projects in early 2019 by focusing on sounds who he admired back as a child. Rough, dirty and compromiseless rhythms coupled with hypnotic melodies are just a few words to describe his vision of techno, of which he makes no exception on as a music selector too.
Since 2019 he is also part of the VISION EKSTASE techno collective with its origins in Stuttgart. Together, he and his friends create events, art and music free of any conventions with great success. Breaking the rules and exploring new grounds is what defines VISION EKSTASE as well as Rove Ranger.
