GC001 sees label boss Kortzer put out the inaugural Gritty City release.

The first release is a 4 track orignal EP titled Bryn y Cwm, an ode to Kortzer's late Grandfather Brynley. The ep combines hard 4/4 ravey techno with broken industrial sounds.

Based in the city from the age of 18 Manchester has shaped and influenced the sound Kortzer has developed over the years. First starting out at former venue R-Base moving on to joining the Loose Lips crew cutting teeth at institutions such as Eastern Bloc Records & The White Hotel.

 The aim of Gritty City is to showcase some of the finest emerging artists and unsung hero's who are from or based in the city. Manchester is a melting pot of people, sounds and culture with a thriving techno community that is at its heart for so many which Gritty City strives to represent.

El estilo de Chefff se ha visto influenciado por los sonidos del hiphop clásico y el techno europeo, siempre bajo un espectro amplio y mentalidad abierta en sus sesiones, muy marcadas por el groove, la percusión y el movimiento. En esta ocasión nos trae una hora cargada de beats frescos, ritmo y cuchilladas a los faders.

Today with us is the fantastic @chefffmusic member of the collective @btchcollective which develops work of spread and respect for the music on the Levantine coast. It is also one of the members of the new artistic project together with @valentinaizumi, @hardsentimental. 

Chefff's style has been influenced by the sounds of classic hiphop and European techno, always under a broad spectrum and open-mindedness in his sessions, very marked by groove, percussion and movement. This time he brings us an hour full of fresh beats, rhythm and stabs to the faders.

Repeat Dance Podcast [19] : JIMMY CHAPS

Berlin-based ZentaSkai presents ‘The Architecture Of The Mind LP’, the debut album on MASK. We premiere ‘Structural Understanding’, a stripped-back house groove that leans on dub traditions and chilling hazy atmospheres.

ZentaSkai undertook a period of research into the underlying structure and organisation of the human brain before writing ‘The Architecture Of The Mind’. The Berlin-based artist then took what had been learned and kept it in mind when writing the music that marks Mask’s first album release. It comes with extensive background notes on each track, and an operational manual of sorts – notes from the artists as to the effects each piece will have on those who hear them.

“The message conveyed by this album is that life itself is filled with music, but our egos often prevent us from being in harmony with this symphony. Inner chaos and silence can be challenging to bear, leading us to seek solace in external noise. We have constructed a barrier between our inner and outer worlds, causing us to lose touch with the rhythm of harmony. However, by embracing the illusion of separation and dancing to good music, we can rediscover harmony with ourselves and our environment. To fully experience the essence of the album, it should be played loudly on a proper sound system or high-quality headphones. By immersing themselves in the music, individuals can engage with its transformative power and potentially find a deeper connection with their own minds and surroundings.” – ZentaSkai.

We premiere ‘Structural Understanding’, a dubby house groove straight from the soul, as ZentaSkai leans on wandering dub chords and smoke-filled pads. The layed back rhythm is laced with crisp 909 percussive swing and reverb-soaked soundscapes, creating a lush dancefloor cut, that is made for early morning swaying.

A first encounter like no other! After a crash course in Praktikal’s music at a party in Belgrade, we found ourselves face to face, discussing this EP less than a week later. After exploring many variants of club-heavy genres, Praktikal has found a home creating tracks that seep deep into every corner of the club. The 11th release on Markham Road Records signals a return for the artist, as his music sees the light of day again a year after releasing on Belgrade’s YES label. In our interview with the artist, we managed to capture the essence of his workflow, and we’re excited to share it here with you:

Capping off the release is a re-debute of Feloneezy’s 130 skills, as Magenta gets a rather dub-y facelift. No stranger to club tracks (although usually in the slower registry) Feloneezy reworks the EPs leadoff track into something more fitting as its closing statement. Weighted, moody, and echoing, this remix will be serving its purpose all winter long.
