Corina MacDonald aka CMD has been busy recently, releasing two EPs in the last few months of 2021; Precarious Pursuit on Bandcamp and Social Factory Reset with the US label Fixed Rhythms. For Montrealers, her voice might be familiar from CKUT radio where she hosts the program Modular Systems every other Sunday. As a producer and DJ, she has performed at editions of MUTEK, Piknic Electronik, Igloofest, and in many of Montreal’s club nights and venues, where she fuses synth-laden aesthetics of acid, techno, electro, and house music. This mix is representative of some of her musical predispositions, setting the more abstract and ambient up against some techno and electro gems, mixing up the old guard and newcomers alike.

CMD is Corina MacDonald, a Montreal music producer, DJ, and radio programmer whose DJ sets and live performances fuse synth-laden aesthetics of techno, electro and house music. CMD has released a series of EPs to date that reflect a range of musical influences and preoccupations. Her most recent endeavors include Social Factory Reset (Fixed Rhythms 2021) and Precarious Pursuit (2021), as well as contributions to the Montreal-based fundraising compilations Re:Conceive (2023) and Dances Across Borders (2020, 2022). She has performed at many of Montreal’s iconic electronic music events, such as MUTEK and Piknic Electronik, as well as in underground clubs and parties, and has been billed alongside a variety of international acts including Ben Klock, Plaid, Lauren Flax and Robert Hood. As the host of Modular Systems on CKUT 90.3 FM she presents new music, guest mixes and live performances every other Sunday afternoon.

The Montreal community unites under the “Abandoned ___” series banner again this May for a one day monster party in the Eastern Townships, Quebec. The party, which has made it’s name reinventing abstract, vacant locales into vibrant electronic music hotspots, is taking over a vast school setting in the name of ‘Abandoned Academy’.

The effort brings together local collectives, including the likes of Husa Sounds, Front Rite, 8day, Octov, Ancient Future and more, for the one day event. The bill welcomes Diynamic pair Adana Twins, who will lead the outdoor soiree joined by local talents like Drol. (Live), Chiino  and Risa. While late night proceeding will take place inside the school with appearances from Atroxx, Jimmy Be, Or Room, Johnny Messina, Rafa Pineda, Adam Husa, Kris Tin and Vowels & White.

With the current global crisis, artists around the world have found themselves without physical platforms to express themselves. DJs, producers, graphic designers, dancers, actors, singers, painters all have been affected in various ways by the pandemic. Even having diverse backgrounds, all relate to one common ground; the urge to create.
 
 We have decided to build this virtual platform to promote artistic expression and support for local Montreal artists to fulfill that urge while showing it to the world.
