Maze 28 - Constant Daydream (TEELCO Remix)

'Honest' by Kamilo Sanclemente was originally released in 2021 and counts as one of the labels' most memorable releases to date. Now it's time for two fresh interpretations!

First up it's Leandro Murua who makes his second appearance on Magnitude, after having made name for himself by releasing music on labels such as YOMO Records, One Of A Kind, Droid9 and If You Wait.

Another artist who is making his return to Magnitude is Valen Gonzalez. His label debut 'Electrico' / 'Creativo' got released last December and was very well received. The perfect reason to give him a chance to do some remix work as well, so here we go!

An artist with a long and rich musical heritage, Paul Deep makes his Proportion debut with the 3-track "Fazed" EP. A single remix come from Greek artist, Blusoul.

From the town of O'Brien, part of the Buenos Aires province, Paul Deep has been a mainstay of the progressive house scene with his immaculate fusing of rhythm and melody. For almost a decade his releases have featured on an array of esteemed imprints that include GMJ and Matter's Meanwhile, Juan Pablo Torrez's Clubsonica Records and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music. Over a double century of production credits thus tell their own story of Paul Deep's success as he makes his debut on Proportion with "Fazed".

Built upon a heavy beat and ticking percussive groove, the title track gently evolves with a range of melodic phrases that blends with sumptuous pads and shimmering arpeggios in an emotive combination. Waxing and waning with dancefloor knowhow, an exquisitely syncopated motif rolls forward with metronomic intensity to reveal a deep progressive gem. "Barion" continues the trademark rhythmic depth and rolling groove while textured pads and filtered motif enter the fray with typical subtlety and intensity. A beautiful piano sequence develops during the breakdown while a crescendo of delayed synth work paves the way for the dynamic groove to drop back into place alongside occasion vocal flourishes. Immediately revealing a slightly lighter touch and feel, "Ashura Path" excites with its off-beat hi-hats and punchy kick. Developing an expansive and beautifully cadenced synth pattern, delayed notes cascade across the stereo spectrum. Continuing a sparkling path across proceedings, the track reaches a rousing filtered denouement at the beatless mid-point before building once more through the final movement. Creamy pads and atmospheric swells add to the melange creating an intoxicating mix.

A long-term proponent of underground house movement dating back to a 2009 debut for The Sound of Everything, Harris Sgourdas has carved out a sizeable reputation over 15 years with his Blusoul soubriquet. An accomplished DJ and renowned figure in his Athens home city, plus producer of a portfolio of successful progressive house gems, the Greek star has found his work allied to some of the fines modern imprints that include the likes of Juice Box Music, Movement Recordings and Guy J's Lost and Found. Making his Proportion debut, the Blusoul remix of "Fazed" builds around the rhythmic groove of the original before evolving effortlessly with intelligent use of familiar themes found within Paul Deep's track. Rising and falling, a gathering sonic storm drives forwards as new melodic elements make their presence felt at the breakdown before extending through the second half with strong chord progression and club-friendly framework. The result is a powerful new interpretation that showcases craft and technique in abundance.

Presenting their first release of the year, Roger Martinez's Higher States welcomes Essco to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from the UK, Essco first emerged in 2019 with the success of early tracks like 'Timelapse', 'Withdrawal' and 'Mirage'. Armed with a sound that incorporated the euphoria of trance, the groove of house and the mood of techno, Essco was hotly tipped as one of the progressive scene's most promising new talents. Further successes soon followed with John OO Fleming's Joof imprint and Univack becoming landing spots for his far-reaching sound. Now, following a contribution to Freegrant Music's 'Fantastic Four' series to begin the year, Essco adds Higher States to his resume with a four track showcase entitled 'Diva'. 

EP opener and title selection 'Diva' finds Essco composing with a strong sense of space. With each sound being an event in a slowly expanding landscape, zooming out to reveal a world of scale in which depth and contrast coax perfectly with rhythm and melody. Wavy arps and balmy atmospheres highlight this mood lifting excursion, while commanding grooves and driving percussion keep things firmly on the dancefloor. The thought-provoking therapeutic experience that is ‘The Prophecy’ follows, and finds Essco shaping pyrotechnic effects around tough punchy beats and rippling rhythms, ultimating landing as a powerful mid-set excursion.

Meanwhile, 'The Other Side’ continues Essco’s modus operandi that honors the wide musical scope he is most interested in. Building with an energetic pulse, its buoyant beats and rolling rhythmic structures eventually give way to fluttery arps and hopeful overlays, an amalgamation of sound which should play well in the morning hours. The UK artist's molecular level of detail shines on EP closer ‘Defiance’, a main room assault where swaying chord stabs and muscular grooves chug mechanically against dissonant drum blasts and hopeful melodica, resulting in an exhilarating collection-closing escapade.

PREMIERE: Essco - Diva [Higher States]

Beginning the new year in style, Cid Inc's Replug Records welcomes GMJ and Matter back to the label for a two-track showcase. Based in Melbourne, the Aussie duo have been beloved figures in the global progressive house scene for over a decade. Having forged a distinctive sound which focuses on inventive use of melody and rhythm, the duo has drawn the lines between global dance cultures without adhering to any fixed formula. Whether operating in solo capacity or as a duo, GMJ and Matter have taken their elusive production touch to the industry's most esteemed imprints. From Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and UK behemoth Anjunadeep, to Australia's long-standing Balance Music and their own burgeoning Meanwhile imprint, it's GMJ and Matter's storytelling style that continues to surprise and inspire even the genre's most discerning trendsetters. Replug has also served as a landing spot for the talented Aussie's, with the release of Matter's ‘Satori' EP marking his label debut in 2017, while GMJ first arrived in 2016 with a contribution to the label's Replugged, Vol. 2 collection. Now, fresh off their latest Meanwhile vehicle ‘EXT 135', GMJ and Matter land back on Replug to begin the new year with ‘Metanoia'. 

As a recent favourite of Replug boss Cid Inc, EP opener and title selection 'Metanoia' finds GMJ and Matter composing with a strong sense of space. Instantly seductive, its looping hypnotism and subtle musicality never fail to command your attention, driving each other into a whirlpool of spiralling emotions, making for a flexible club track that bends between scenes while injecting vibrant energy into the dancefloor. Rich atmospheres, effervescent percussion and dubbed out tones are at a premium across the eight-minute excursion, with each sound being an event in a slowly expanding landscape, zooming out to reveal a world of scale in which depth and contrast coax perfectly with rhythm and melody. 

Moving forward to selection two, GMJ and Matter masterfully synthesize their talents into one singular meditative vision that is 'In Bloom'. Building with a subdued pulse, its smoky resonance eventually gives way to melodic experimentation, where textural and structural dimensions blanket subterranean wobbles and tightly knit percussion, resulting in a profound mood setting experience. Thematically distinct throughout, the duo's misty melodies are haunting and highly memorable, ringing out in timeless suspension across a mood lifting break, before segueing into a utopian finale that resonates with a rare combination of hope and reflection.

The 'Metanoia' project is a fantastical journey across a vivid electronic cosmos, one where GMJ and Matter carefully balance technical vision, with thought-provoking musicality and elaborate rhythmic sequences, making for a two-track affair that brings us closer to knowing the enigmatic duo, while continuing to live in the mystery of their design.

Deepwibe Underground opens the month of May by welcoming Dmitry Molosh back to the label for a new EP. Having established a bond with the Estonian imprint in 2021, Belarusian artist Dmitry Molosh has made the label one of his primary landing spots. Since making his Deepwibe Underground debut Dmitry has recorded seven originals and four remixes for the label, while also delivering five remixes for the label’s organic offshoot -102C. The last two calendar years saw the progressive phenom at his creative best, releasing collaborative projects alongside fellow genre stars Cid Inc and Navar, while continuing to build his own Proportion Records imprint. Now, as we approach 2023’s summer season, Dmitry returns to Deepwibe Underground for a two-track showcase entitled ‘Flaws’.

I’m not sure I ever remember Dmitry doing a full vocal track but he has here with the lead selection ‘Flaws’ and it’s turned out beautifully. Punchy beats and a full, rolling groove set the foundation for sweeping melodies and an emotive vocal, the latter of which gets used just enough to make it feel like a full vocal track but not too much where you wish it there was less of it. The main break in particular does this very well, as it focuses primarily on the main melodic themes, while the vocal is ultimately used a bridge into the a well crafted drop and then an uplifting vocal-infused finale.

The companion piece ‘Secret’ continues the groovy lean of the release and lands with an equally impressive display of craftsmanship. Smooth and effortless throughout, it’s a foundation of warm pulsating beats and chunky bass stabs which set the course for catchy chord stabs, effervescent effects and panoramic synths to captivate leading into the break. Rather than creating a typical ‘breakdown moment’, Dmitry uses tasteful modulation in a classy and concise manner to elevate tension across the brief interlude, a production choice which should prove effective at keeping the dancefloors undivided attention, while also maintaining that groovy energy which flows into a buoyant finale. It rounds out what proves to be one of Dmitry’s more interesting releases of late, one where you get to hear something a bit different from the veteran artist, all while still keeping in that cool progressive style for which he has become so beloved. Don’t miss it.
