Remixes for Kamilo Sanclemente & Dabeat, Rudy, Michael A and GMJ have also been notable highlights in the Italian-born producer’s star-studded portfolio, as he now returns to remix Savvas. Characterised by an effortless bouncing bass groove and immaculately syncopated percussion, the Andrea Cassino interpretation of “Wonder” retains some of the core melodic themes while turning it into a rolling, club-friendly gem. Sweeping string passages and the haunting vocal prevalent in the original make their presence heard, particularly at the atmospheric and evocative breakdown before the mesmerising groove takes hold once more.

Golan Zocher & Choopie - SAO (Hernan Cattaneo & Simply City Extended Remix) [Univack]

A welcome returning figure to the Meanwhile Roster, Mike Rish is no stranger to success. With numerous cross-genre hits under multiple aliases, his own name sees him reach rarefied heights in the Progressive House genre with work signed to Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Guy J’s Lost & Found and Praveen Achary’s Juicebox Music.

December 2021 saw a Meanwhile debut with the sublime 3-track “Beyond” EP, while April 2023 witnessed a standout reworking of Jamie Stevens’ “Storm Front”. Returning for a second outing, his latest triple tracker opens with the funky rhythmic backdrop of “GT”. Using an intricate percussive arrangement to provide a club-friendly foundation, a swathe of stereo-panned textures and synth effects meander across the opening movements, accompanied by delay-infused vocal cuts. A smooth arpeggio adds a touch of traditional progressive drive at the breakdown and beyond, while a further synth motif blossoms in the second half to sit alongside the rasping and explosive bassline.

Continuing the effects-laden narrative, “Shoreditch Funk” quickly makes its mark with a woodblock infused percussive top-line. Stereo-panned pads and saw-tooth synths pulsate in dizzying fashion while a grooved bassline adds dancefloor ‘funk’. A cascading arp makes its presence felt, pitching in freeform oscillator glory at the break, before continuing unabated in detuned fashion throughout the second half. The result is a vibrant sonic collage that bristles with verve and innovation.

The final track witnesses another meticulously conceived rhythmic arrangement throughout “Reka”, with a subtle bass sequence providing dancefloor sensibilities alongside a heavy 4/4 beat. An acetylene-torch lead mesmerises with its glissando phrasing while a glassy motif combines with gently pulsing pads that swim enticingly in smooth juxtaposition. Continuing themes redolent in previous outings, a beautifully imagined synth phrase syncopates in exquisitely cadenced rhythm alongside percussive counterparts. “Reka” then evolves into a delicately conceived melodic jewel in the latter stages.

“GT / Shoreditch Funk / Reka” continues to find Mike Rish very much at the leading edge of modern and pioneering Progressive House.

'Rising out of Argentina's electronic underground and making his much anticipated Replug debut is Ivan Aliaga. Hailing from the talent-rich region of Cordoba, Ivan’s musical palate takes reference from the progressive genre’s vast spectrum; in turn creating an authentic voice that is discernibly his own. Noted for his attention to detail, tough kick drums and electric design quality, Ivan's craft shines through vividly, making each one of his creations an exhilarating experience. On the strength of releases via Mango Alley, Meanwhile, Or Two Strangers and The Soundgarden, Ivan has earned the praise of genre trendsetters Cid Inc, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed and more. Now, following his latest Mango Alley vehicle ‘Blue Shade’, Ivan makes his Replug debut with a two-track showcase entitled ‘Lonely World’.

The EP’s title selection ‘Lonely World’ sets the tone with a remarkable display of rhythm and musicality. Tight, compact and bursting with ultrasonic energies, it’s a creation built around meditative melodies and temperate harmonies. There’s a strong sense of cruising across the first movement, one that allows the listener to relish in Ivan’s rippling grooves and orbiting effects, in turn perfectly setting up a series of poignant chord changes and processed piano’s which carry energy into the main break. Ivan’s craftsmanship shines across the interlude, with effervescent phrasing and fuzzed out synth swagger cleverly coaxing, eventually revealing a pixie-like lead melody which pushes onwards to a finale that is equal parts cosmic and emotive.

The companion piece ‘Speed’ follows and is an apt barometer of where Ivan’s headspace is at, as he lets tight kick drums lay the foundation for gritty percussion and devilish effects to create a darker monochrome. Energies shift and emotion rises as hopeful pads emerge, bringing depth and space to the pyrotechnic framework, before getting washed away in a wave of deconstructed sonics for a heady finale. It’s a thrilling conclusion to a fresh two-track showcase, one where Ivan Aliaga makes an impressive Replug debut, and carefully balances rhythm and groove with technique and melody.'

For the first edition of the Replug Podcast, we have great pleasure in welcoming Jamie Stevens with a recently recorded DJ set from 'Who Loves?' in Melbourne.

The Australian producer has achieved an amazing level of critical and commercial success over the course of his career. As one of his country's most talented and sought after artists he has proven his skill in professional sound design, music scores for film and contemporary electronic music. As the founding member of Infusion, the much-loved Australian live act, he's left his mark around the globe, headlining some of the biggest and most respected clubs including; Fabric (London), Pacha (Buenos Aires), Womb (Tokyo) and festivals such as Glastonbury, Coachella, Roskilde and Creamfields in Moscow, Brazil, UK and Argentina. More recently Jamie's discography has been highlighted by releases on Guy J's Lost & Found and Armadillo imprints, which recently lead him back to Replug for his first artist EP entitled 'The Forgotten Dive'.

"I was asked to play a 3 hour set for an event here in Melbourne called ‘Who Loves?’ on Saturday May 12th 2018. The series of events is run by a couple of lovely people, Andre and Dajana who DJ as a duo under the name The Fields. Each ‘Who Loves?' only ever hosts a few DJs so as to give each DJ a decent playing time (as opposed to an hour to an hour and a half as is the standard) and are encouraged to simply play the music that person loves. To say this particular evening was intimate is an understatement as it was a chilly Melbourne evening and everyone was huddled together in the outside (but undercover) area. Despite some unfortunate equipment issues, it was a great night with a wildly enthusiastic crowd so I have presented here the first 2 hours (9pm-11pm) of my set. Enjoy!" - Jamie Stevens.
