"I’ve known Knxwledge since before the x. I remember a young dreaded beat-maker working the graveyard shift of a dead-end job in Philly hitting me through his AIM app on his Sidekick. He does what he wants how he wants and on the low, he’s one of the nastiest cats on the beats. We’ve had a few firsts together and I love dude like a brother. 

Blu is as skilled as any rapper out today. I often think that folks en masse won’t fully appreciate what he contributes to the art of MCing till he’s through. I met him through an interview back in 2006. Fate and circumstance have crossed our paths several times since. 

We were actually roommates for a small stretch of 2009. One day, inside a modest two-story home atop Mount Washitaw in Los Angeles, we were going through the few crate of records I owned. I pulled out the European bootleg to Bilal’s Love For Sale I bought at Poo Bah Records a few months prior. 

“Daaamn, G! how much you want for this?” 

I didn’t know what to answer. I loved that album too much to price it. Then a lightbulb went off, “I’ll trade you.” 

“Trade me what?”

“A song. I’ll give you the record and you let me put out a song of yours.”

Blu laughed, gave me a pound and without a word took the record into his room downstairs next to the garage."

Here we are once again, another heavy hitter session in full effect. Every week we keep digging deeper to try and bring you what we feel is next or what has been forgotten about. In fact it's essential for us to connect the dots on all ends. This movement is a culture to us. It's more than just music. Joe Kay kicked things off with heavy, heavy vibes from many brand new/unheard artists and collectives. The selection in here was really well thought out and analyzed properly so take notes.  

Shouts to Geode and the Chord Marauders who sent over their forthcoming compilation which is simply amazing. Pay attention to these guys, trust. Also look out for Sunni Colòn & Jarreau Vandal. These two artists will be breakthrough artists on Soulection in 2014; guaranteed. We had special guest Dream Koala stop by who is visiting LA for his 1st time all the way from Berlin (current residence but originally from Paris). The young 19 year old threw down a DJ set that included bass and uptempo tribal vibes. In fact, his set was very different from his original production. Dream Koala is very talented and we look forward to see and hear what's to come. Towards the end our good friend Sean O of Sound Waves (KPFK 90.7 FM L.A.) stopped by to promote a very special event going on in L.A. this week.
