Arpy Brown join the Toy Tonics family! The London/Berlin-based duo make a sound that is based on futuristic breakbeats combined with deep, jazz chord progressions and a kind of funk that sounds more like it was made in 2100 then in a year behind us. Definitely not a retro record the Vesta EP is further proof that the connection between London and Berlin that has been build by several Toy Tonics artists (Cody Currie the latest in the gang) is becoming a strong one. The combination of the Berlin dancefloor sound and the UK jazz fusion soul is changing the scene and creating new moods. Neo soul and house, broken beats and disco.. there are lot of things happening in that new world and Arpy Brown could be a strong player in that new sound.

The 2 guys already achieved great support by UK radio DJs such as Annie Mac and Jamz Supernova for their their first collaborative EP Touch (with Metronomy’s Olugbenga), followed by their 2020 solo EP 'Your Love Is Lifting Me', an ode to compassion and solidarity, and remixes for labels including Rhythm Section.

‘Vesta’ is not just the title track of the EP but also the name of the South London Road where they shared an apartment, built a studio in their living room, and put together the first ideas for this EP.

Both Robin and Avi come from a live performance background, played in bands since their early teenage years before they met studying music at Goldsmiths in London. You can hear a playful live quality throughout the EP. It’s not your average house productions with the usual formalistic patterns, but a very original, very fresh style - hard to copy (but easy to dance to).

Now based between Berlin and London, they collaborate with their friend, Athens-born, Berlin-based artist Aphty Khéa on Yesterday and Can’t Make My Mind Up.

Avi and Robin their label squareglass and a London-residency inviting guests such as Seb Wildblood, Will Saul, Asquith, Anu and also have a monthly show on Rinse FM.

In 2011 Nebraska released an album called Displacement. Every one of the tracks have been aired on the Mister sound system, and at least three of them have become anthems for the party. (If you don't own that album, get it.)

About a year ago, we started to wonder, "Where is this Nebraska guy?" He hadn't released any new music since the LP. We searched high and low an found his contact. When we got in touch, he responded by paying us a visit, bringing us a couple pieces of vinyl (one of which made its way onto Eamon and Justin's Weekends and beginnings Mix) and, thankfully, sending us a steady stream of unreleased music.

A couple of those songs have become regular dance floor contenders, and we're very happy to say now that we've cut them to wax, and we're officially welcoming Nebraska into the Mister Saturday Night family.

Making Love [Kassian Versions]

After releasing the ‘High Life' remixes just before summer and their more electronic EP on Aus Music, it’s time to get label heads Detroit Swindle back on Heist. They come in with full force, delivering a set of Swindle styled house tracks, accompanied by a jazzy remix by Volcov in his Isoul8 moniker with guest appearances by Kaidi Tatham on keys and Nigel Bennett on vocals.  
 The EP kicks off with ‘The life behind things’; a life affirming soulful house tune that’s cleverly built around a set of switching organ stabs. The energy in this track keeps on building with the filter slowly opening up while live percussion oozes its way through the track (courtesy of Mauskovic Dance Band member Chris Bruining). After a well working surprise acid break, the track breaks down into a jazzy organ solo by Byron the Aquarius, building up momentum till the full track comes back in for a ecstatic delivery of feel-good dancefloor emotions. 
 The second original of this ep is Detroit Swindle’s view on what a party-starting piano house track should sound like with ‘Music for clubs’. This track is all about rolling drums, lush piano stabs and possibly the funkiest baseline in four-to-the-floor house music. The latter two are made possible by the quick finger work of their live show collaborator and close friend Lorenz Rhode.  
 The full B side goes to Volcov’s remix of “The life behind things”. He takes his inspiration from the energy of the original and chooses to set a steady groove where the lush key work of Kaidi Tatham shines both on the chords and a muscle-flexing organ solo. The vocal sample from the original is accompanied by some great ad-libs by Nigel Bennett. With these elements working together in perfect harmony, you can practically feel the good vibes these 3 friends had when recording the remix. 
 It’s been on our to-do list for a while to record a full-on house record, and we hope this one does the trick for you as much as it does for us. 
 If you’d happen to be around town during ADE this year, you can get this record a week ahead of its worldwide release exclusively at our Pop up shop on Elandsgracht 55. Apart from the record, we’ll have a limited edition collaboration collection available with Amsterdam-based streetwear brand Baskèts, loads of DJ’s playing sets and you could also just come by for a drink or two.

Sound Stream - Dance With Me

The infamous Sound Stream return with just their sixth release to date (granted, they've churned out loads of stuff through their other guises). I have to confess, its usually the Sound Stream stuff that gets me the most - its subtle, organic sample usage and club friendly arrangement. Anyway, they're always highly sought after slabs of wax and come with that Hardwax guarantee of heavy fidelity pressing. "Julie's Theme" kicks of and is a druggy slab of manipulated disco loops, tearing beats and heavily delays drums. The stuttering grain delays will cause ripples of energy soaring through the club while the tough hand claps and pummeling kick will keep you locked down. The melodious elements are slowly introduced towards the end, giving a lovely tension and release as the heavy drums give way to blissful, floaty melodies that offer a lovely refrain after the aggressive grooves. On the flip we get a more straight-up disco / house jaunt. Beginning with head-turning air raid sirens (always one of my favourite effects) accompanying a live, chugging 4/4 disco beat its not long before an absolutely huge meandering bassline comes in which is gonna get people bursting around the floor pulling shapes like no-bodies business. This is proper peaktime disco house people, and you better be prepared for the esxplosion of energy you're gonna unleash when this drops. Play this around 1Am whne the floor is full and see it turn into a fully fledged mosh pit. Ideal. Move fast.... these Sound Steam records don't hang arond long....
