This is the recording of my DJ set at Berghain on sunday morning 6th of February 2011, between 8 and 12am. Deep respect to Stroboscopic Artefacts for having me as part of the line-up, the Berghain crew for being the perfect hosts and last but not least that massive pack of dancing nutters on the floor (especially the Belgian delegation present for the occasion). After beginning the unveiling process for our 16th birthday lineup at the beginning of the month with the 4 deck master Ben Sims, we've moved our way through the cast of artists who'll be bringing the magic to our 30 hour celebration with techno pioneer Marcel Dettmann completing the bill yesterday. In all we've lined up 14 guests to play alongside our residents Craig Richards and Terry Francis although there will be one more surprise to come at the party itself.

As a perfect demonstration of exactly the type of thing that occurs when Dettmann is at the controls, we recorded his set from his last EC1 appearance back in August which is the perfect bang with which to present our 16th Birthday Weekend lineup in full...

Before he took to the stage, Function joked that he needed to crank up the tempo of his set higher than he'd initially planned. It was easy to understand why: he was following AX&P (Adam X and Perc), who'd just battered the crowd with two hours of industrial techno. Armed with, among other things, a TR-909, a laptop, a couple of controllers and a Rane mixer, Function wasn't about to be outdone. He stepped up and delivered a 135 BPM masterclass.

For the last 25 years, Luke Slater has been a master in sound design. Throughout his career he’s operated under several different guises, with an extensive back catalogue that’s widely regarded as one of techno’s greatest. 

He started out in the early 90s releasing seminal works on labels like Peacefrog, and in 2006 he started putting out music via his own label Mote Evolver, yet his output hasn’t slowed down since then: the best example of this is probably last year’s killer 'Arc Angel' LP he released as Planetary Assault Systems via Ostgut Ton.

Slater is equally lauded as a DJ. Through our history he’s become something of a Farringdon staple, and his clinical precision has helped make his Room Two sets highly anticipated among the techno contingent of our family.

He reminded us why he’s become so integral to our space at his last appearance with us. Following on from Terry Francis and Black Asteroid’s bewildering live show, Slater stepped up to close out the room with a dramatic and transcendent 3-hour closing.

As we invite him to return to his adopted Room Two home this coming Saturday, we uncovered the recording from last year in anticipation.
