For the final show of the year, producer and @dj-pinch (AKA Rob Ellis) closes things out with a mix celebrating 20 years of his label @tectonic-recordings – an imprint which has been at the forefront of pioneering dubstep since 2005.

Established in Bristol, where Pinch has called home since the late 90s, Tectonic emerged from a city renowned for its creative communities and music scene, rooted in a history of reggae, trip-hop, and jungle.

The label’s first release was Pinch’s own 12", titled “Alien Tongue / War Dub” featuring P Dutty. From there, he went on to release his solo debut Underwater Dancehall and later, Reality Tunnels on Tectonic, alongside a slew of records from the likes of Peverlist, Loefah, Skream, Photek, Shed, and Mumdance & Logos. Beyond Tectonic, Pinch has collaborated with musician Shackleton on a ground-breaking album in 2011, as well as two projects with legendary dub producer Adrian Sherwood.

Over time, Tectonic’s sound has evolved from its dubstep roots towards the fringes, from breakcore and bass to experimental techno. The mix that Pinch has created for this month’s  Carhartt WIP Radio show traces Tectonic’s back catalogs, sharing past tracks alongside the present, with a few special mash-ups along the way.

The mix comes with an interview where Pinch eflects on the creative benefits of collaboration, the renewed interest in the meditative side of dubstep, and the lessons behind running an underground label for two decades. Read the interview at www.carhartt-wip.com.

Carhartt WIP Radio December 2025: Pinch / Tectonic

After a full day of sound system music at Freetown Christiania, Om Unit played a two-hour closing set. Not only was it a masterclass journey through his sound; it was a step by step demonstration of how to reset a vibe and build it back up. With a refined sense of how to scale and intensify a musical storyline, this set exemplifies how some DJ’s have that special gift of feeling the vibe. Along with the mix we caught up with him to talk more about DJ'ing and his thoughts about the craft post-pandemic.

Demarkus returns to Piston with the fantastically upbeat dance-your-socks-off I do It Naturally which comes backed up with a great remix from Bonetti. After appearing on Secrets Of The Trade in 2015 Demarkus delighted us with his full debut - Strung On You, soon after. His sound carries a wonderful deep house flavour and it's no wonder he's appeared on many top house labels over the years. We're delighted to see him back and we just know that this one is gonna rock.

First up we go with the Original Mix straight to the dancefloor, there's no choice here, the track will force you to move to its solid rhythmic flow while an instantly recognisable diva-esque vocal rings out. The pounding kicks and bright crispy hi hats keep things moving nicely while a deep rooted bass rattles the subs mercilessly. Cool synth chords remain strong throughout, but it's the vocal that steals the show here. A definite must have for the floors to get down to.

Piston firm favourite Spanish DJ and producer Andres Boned aka Bonetti steps up to the remix desk with a superb rendition that takes us deep into the house sound. His last outing - Pumping Pumping at the start of 2016 proved popular and this one follows suit with its party fuelled sounds. Right from the off we're instantly dragged towards the floor as that funky bassline does its thing. Big chunky beats are matched with a tight percussions arrangement to deliver a well oiled rhythm that just lights up the groove beautifully. The vocal stands out nicely and adds to the funky nature of the sound. Top notch stuff indeed.
