"A few eyebrows may have been raised when Job Jobse snuck into our top DJs of 2014 list, but for those who have seen him play over the past few years it won't have come as a surprise. Jobse gradually built his name as a resident DJ at the much-loved—and now defunct—Amsterdam nightclub Trouw. He was a regular at its predecessor, Club 11, and his party Drukpers was the first-ever event at Trouw when it opened in 2009. Five years later, Jobse brought the house down when he span the last-ever set at the club, something he describes below as "the biggest honour I can think of." In the intervening years he played a significant role in establishing Trouw as one of Europe's best clubs. His melodically rich mix of house, techno, disco and Italo soundtracked countless parties, and as the club's booker he helped shape the broad-ranging music policy that defined Trouw. Until recently he was also the label manager at Life And Death, the label that along with Innervisions has popularised a style of dance music that Jobse himself calls trance—or at least a form of it. In our recent Thoughts on 2015 piece, we said this style has become the dominant force in underground club music; with his international bookings stacking up, Jobse looks like he's now a key name in this movement."

but this hasn’t, not really. this is what i do, and have been doing every night since i was 17.

i find records i love, i fly to a city. i take a nap. i play the records for people. they dance. i get paid i go home.

sometimes i actually think there might be something wrong with me to STILL be doing this. am i stupid?

HOW…. how could you STILL be playing records for people at 5am. shouldn’t you have developed an APP? A line of Wellness Products? surely you should have “sold your company” by now? WRITE A DECK? raise capital!!!! Get bored.
but then i play a set like this (link above) and remember that this is, in fact, as good as it gets, that the core idea i had as a 16year old was actually the BEST idea: to live a life surrounded and protected by MUSIC. armed with your favourite songs, the ones that keep you young and confidant, the ones you want to share with friends.

so that is DJing for me. simple. not particularly revolutionary… except for the fact that to be excited and happy seems revolutionary these days.

also: i’ve played about 4500 parties. and most are like 6 or 7 on tens….. sometimes an 8.

THIS WAS A 10. And the 10s never get recorded. there are lots of exclusives and THREE of my new tracks. and its been recorded WITH all the crowd noise…. trust me its a good one.

Gerd Janson is the influential label boss, journalist, DJ and producer behind the Running Back imprint an doesn't need any introduction nowadays. With a fine ear for unearthing new artists and developing them on his label, Gerd has a very busy schedule and puts out a dizzying amount of music from ambient to disco, house to techno. As a DJ, he has no identifiable style but is a master of many and is someone who can play to just about any crowd and make them move. As if that wasn't enough, as one half of Tuff City Kids he kicks out the club-ready jams that keep kids dancing. 

Back on New Year’s Eve 2015, he played back-to-back with Irishman Krystal Klear, who is at the heart of the modern house scene in his hometown Manchester. His fresh take on a classic sound has seen him win plenty of favour with the youth of the day, as well as getting him signed to Kerri Chandler’s MadTech label. Only active for six years, he has already become a regular on the global circuit and now heads up his own Cold Tonic label as well as hosting an influential show on Rinse FM. With a great sense of humour that always permeates his music, former Hoya: Hoya resident Krystal Klear has a passion for a wide range of sounds. 

Our latest mix is taken from the five hour b2b the pair played that NYE. As such it really found them stretching their legs and playing across the board. From slow disco to playful r&b grooves, 80s synths to classic house, it is a truly playful set that is chock full of jams, all carefully mixed into one explosive and loved-up whole.
