Euphoric trance delights and proggy house tunes by Love On The Rocks member Alex Kassian. Carrying a firm nod to the early trance and dream house heydays, the Berlin local just clocked in two seriously good releases on Paramida’s label. Doing 90s-inspired, contemporary music the right way. We love to see it. With new material in the pipeline, waiting to be released on Pinchy & Friends, and a new record coming up on his Planet Sundae label, we caught up to hear the latest on developments.

Oddysee 024 | 'When We Dance Again' by Alex Kassian

Oslo house boss and mad selector @fredfades turns up the volume for the latest edition with a mix of serious summer heat! Big tempos and big nineties prog energies mixed with deep burners from the golden years of Euro house.

Q. What inspiration did you draw upon when putting this mix together? Is there a sound, feeling, or time in dance music history that you channelled when putting this one together?

A. I kind of wanted to make a bit "summery" mix that contains a lot of the stuff I am playing these days. Loads of European house records from the mid nineties. Then also some US stuff of course, but definitely a lot of British, Italian and German things. 

Q. Are there any records in the mix that are especially close to your heart, or old favourites that you’ve been keeping up your sleeve for the right moment?

A. I mean there's one of my own songs in there, which I never did in a mix before, which makes it a bit special for me. It's the 'Summer of Love' cut from my new album 'Caviar'! 

Otherwise there's a few other things here that was discovered through other Norwegian deejays which always makes it a bit more precious to me than just finding it in a store or on the internet. Boomerang, PHD, Digitalis & Poligonheads was all bought out of the collection of a norwegian DJ named Alex Jangle.  

Q. What’s the latest with your own music and your Mutual Intentions label? The Caviar LP looked like it would have been a fun project to work on with so many great guests collaborating on that!

A. Caviar has been going surprisingly well on physical format, which is great to see! It's been a super fun process with a lot of good friends (and new friends!) joining in. I'm really happy how it all turned out. There's a bunch of new stuff coming soon as well! Both from me and a bunch of other artists!

A very special recording from our 10 years of MFM event at Fairfield Amphitheatre last September between Jamie and Lauren. It was beautiful to see two close friends throwing down tracks, lost in the music and the thing that they love. You know things are going well when an hour into their set, Jamie and Lauren both asked if we were recording the set. Yesterday was Jamie's birthday and we and Lauren felt it was the right time to release this mix, as a celebration of Jamie and his music. An Australian DJ and co-founder of the legendary Melbourne Deepcast, Myles Mac has been a cornerstone of Naarm's underground music scene for over 15 years. A tastemaker and curator, he’s known for hosting iconic house music events through his MDC, Lost Weekend, and Made in the Shade parties, consistently bringing some of the genre’s biggest names to the Australian dancefloors. His deep, eclectic selections have earned him a reputation not only in Australia but also internationally, regularly performing in cities like Berlin, New York, London, and Tokyo.

Whether solo or with long-time collaborators DJ Possum and DJ Camov (as Project 95), Myles’ dynamic, ever-expanding sound has made its mark on mixes for platforms like Truants, Trushmix, For Home Use Only, c-, and, of course, his home base, Melbourne Deepcast.

Extracted from the archives, we have Lena's Bank Holiday set from last August for you. 
It was sadly Lena's only set at The Gun, but it was a wild night, sweaty and heaving in the extreme & certainly one of favourites. The crowd had been dancing from about 7pm (Casper Clark and I's warm up is also available here) so when Lena got on for the remaining 4.5 hours, the room went nuts. Its a brilliantly varied and balanced set that encapsulates so much of what we loved at The Gun, banging enough for a room full of seething heads. dancing into the early hours and considered and classy do that it suits playback at any time of the day.
The recorder died just before the end of the set, so it appears those very last tracks were just for us there on that night, the rest is ready now. (Thanks for this Lena x)

Calling Berlin home since 2022, he can equally be found taking care of music in one of the city’s smoked out dive bars, helping host weekly coppi sessions or throwing parties under the lately banner.

For Trush he made a 1 hour and 38 minutes mix of house music with a touch of electro and some elements of Italo in the mix! Deep moods and grooves some UK, NY and Detroit classic rollin' it hard! Mix it mix it flix it flix it!
