A true legend and pioneering figure of techno, US sound architect and Geophone label owner Mike Parker breaks in on the RYC waves with a very special set full with his idiosyncratically dark, obsessive, inch-perfectly chiselled 4x4 wares. Before Boiler Room and co. were even a thing, a pioneering platform going by the name of Studio R° used to broadcast techno sets by prominent artists from a secret location in Berlin. This iconic, vinyl-only mix is Parker’s Studio R° set from 2013, now fully remastered for your listening pleasure. Building atmospheres unlike any other, brooding and transcending in equal measure, Parker has laid the foundation to an exceptionally rich body of work. Master of the industrial vocab, peeping towards Detroit but with his defining spin on the early days genre, Parker entices us down the path of steely monumentality and laser-precise mind control. Just as typically mazy, his present mix conjures up all traits of quality Parker material: 909-powered propulsion, enslaving acid whorls, Escher-like fractals. Wild, wild ride ahead.

Wie und wann seid ihr zur elektronischen Musik gekommen?

Wir haben beide vor mehr als 15 Jahren angefangen, uns intensiv mit elektronischer Musik zu beschäftigen. Als wir uns kennenlernten merkten wir sofort, dass wir uns musikalisch auf der gleichen Wellenlänge befinden. Dann gründeten wir zusammen mit Christoph den Klangextase Podcast und fingen auch an, zusammen aufzulegen und Parties zu veranstalten.

Welche musikalischen Momente sind euch besonders in Erinnerung geblieben?

Unser erster öffentlicher B2B-Gig ist schon eine halbe Ewigkeit her. Damals in Kassel im K19 heizten wir dem Club so sehr ein, dass es kein Halten (und kein trockenes Shirt) mehr gab. Weder für uns noch für die Partymeute auf der Tanzfläche. Das war ein fantastisches Erlebnis!

Wo konnte man euch bisher antreffen?

Neben einigen Gigs in Kassel haben wir in Hamburg die Villa Nova und das Moiré unsicher gemacht. Auch in Matthias’ Geburtsstadt Halle haben wir bereits bei der Tag am Meer Tour im Januar ordentlich Gas gegeben. Außerdem konnte man uns im letzten Jahr auf dem UckerAlm Festival zusammen spielen sehen und hören.

Gibt es Zukunftspläne?

Es gibt keine wirklichen Pläne für die Zukunft. Aber wir werden auch weiterhin hier und da auf Festivals und in Clubs anzutreffen sein. So steht z.B. fest, dass wir wieder nach Grünz auf das Oewerall Festival kommen werden. Auch München ist bereits im Kalender eingetragen. Dort werden wir zusammen mit Christoph das Zur Gruam aufmischen. Die Hauptsache für uns ist immer, Spaß mit den Gästen zu haben und sich selbst nicht allzu ernst zu nehmen. Damit fahren wir richtig gut, und werden das auch weiter so machen!
