29번째 vurt podcast는 이탈리아 로마 출신의 딥테크노 스페셜리스트 Feral의 디제이 세트와 함께합니다. Hypnus 레코드의 초창기 멤버중 한명으로, 딥테크노 정신을 본질적으로 구현하였다고 평가되는 Feral은 최근 자신의 레이블 Aube Rouge를 설립하며 새로운 비전을 향해 한걸음 더 나아가고 있습니다.

The 29th vurt podcast features a DJ set by Feral, a deep techno specialist from Rome, Italy. As one of the earliest members of Hypnus Records, Feral, who is considered to have essentially embody the spirit of deep techno, is taking a step further with his new vision, recently founded his label Aube Rouge.

Marked by his awakened sensibility to depth, Feral consistently carries a thread of spirituality throughout his work.  He has inherently embodied the spirit of deep techno, of which defines Hypnus Records, through his passion for audio engineering, hardware experimentation and fascination for percussive instruments.  Feral’s affinity for the shamanic calls of the tribal drum have led him across the world to discover and nurture his defining sound. Finding comfort in the solitude of his studio, Feral’s visions emerge in the crepusular hours of his native city, Rome.  With a heightened sense of spatial awareness, the sounds of Feral unearth the path of his multidimensional world, transporting the listener to a haunting, yet grounding refuge within.

This is the recording of my DJ set at Berghain on sunday morning 6th of February 2011, between 8 and 12am. Deep respect to Stroboscopic Artefacts for having me as part of the line-up, the Berghain crew for being the perfect hosts and last but not least that massive pack of dancing nutters on the floor (especially the Belgian delegation present for the occasion). Dasha Rush is a Russian born artist who sees the genre as a starting place not a destination. She is a respected and well-travelled DJ and live performer, but her work is equally focussed away from the dance floor, and sometimes away from music itself. Her recent album for Raster-Noton, Sleepstep, could be a metaphor for her work: "These 16 pieces are transmissions from that state between sleep and wakefulness," said Tony Naylor, a reflection of the in-between zones her music often inhabits. Dubby but intense, brutal but tender, foggy yet clear—Sleepstep was a wonderful mass of contradictions. Not being one thing or the other is vitally important to Rush, which goes hand-in-hand with her strong independent streak. The majority of the music she's released since starting out in 2005 has come through her own Fullpanda label and, as she told us in 2013, she's resistant to playing the publicity game in the way many in the scene do. That's meant she's remained off the radar for some techno fans, but it's also given her the freedom to explore projects and sounds as she pleases. With all this mind, it was little surprise that our invitation to record a podcast was met with, "Yes, but it won't be a club mix." What we got instead was an absorbing 65 minutes of dense ambient soundscapes that shows Rush at her most reflective. The mix comes ahead of the North American premiere of Antarctic Takt, Rush's A/V show with Stanislav Glazov, at this week's Mutek festival in Montreal.

This months podcast is contributed by Luigi Tozzi who is also going to play at our next event on November 19th at Griessmühle along with Härdstedt, CNCPT and Dash.
Luigi has emerged as one of the key figues of the italian deep techno scene since his first releases on Hypnus Records in 2014. Since then his sound has only become more elaborated. The focus on details and atmospheres in his first album Deep Blue: Volume 2 is just spectacular. Definitely one of our favorite albums this year!

Tiga is back to tell you what you’ve always needed to hear with his new single “Eye Luv U.” Co-produced by one half of Paranoid London, the new single harnesses all the pure source energy of what enlightened club-goers often describe as their favourite emotion. 

“The title came to me while I was playing a pyramid that had been converted into a multi-purpose event space,” says the Canadian DJ/Producer. "The hieroglyphics over what is now the coat check made me imagine a world in which pictures could mean words and words could mean anything. The thing about wordplay is that it’s fascinating to conceive of different realities informed by different systems of meaning, and how each reality would invariably bend to vault me to the pinnacle of all possible worlds. It’s humbling, really.”

Rising Scottish talent Jasper James darkens the tone considerably on his remix, which would not be out of place at a classic off-the-grid warehouse rave. But not so fast, because Butch’s equally great “80s Warehouse Acid Remix” also lays claim to that warehouse, challenging what it means to be “warehouse” in an age when corporations pay people to throw parties in what used to be underground settings. 

“Warehouse is a state of mind,” adds Tiga helpfully. “It’s that indescribable feeling that transports you back to the first time you read an oral history about dance culture. I read one sponsored by Mountain Dew about three years ago, and I’ve never looked back.”

After appearing on A-Sides Volume 4 at the start of 2016, Ilario Alicante now makes his full debut on the label. He has quickly established himself as a key player amongst a new crop of techno artists and truly is one of the brightest stars in the game. His skills behind the decks have seen him tour the globe with Cocoon, as well as appear at the likes of elrow, Lovefest and We Are FSTVL.

Opening with ‘Times’, the EP gets off to a flying start as the track rages straight into top gear, rolling through 6 minutes of pure power. This is a peak time tool that is set to be heard across dance floors worldwide this year. ‘Awakened’ you may have heard from Adam Beyer’s sets of late, a firm favourite which gets his much sought after seal of approval. Rampant syths and mesmerizing vocal hooks all make it one hell of a journey. ‘Sense’ is a more industrial affair, chunky basslines take your hand through the track as it charges on. It’s that classic deep Ilario Alicante sound we all know and love. The EP finishes off on ‘Apogeo’, with its hypnotic siren tones and acute percussion. One thing is for sure, Ilario Alicante is in a league of his own.

Filled with contrasts in light and shadow and all the shades in between, Afterlife is thrilled to announce a collaborative release of Mind Against and Aether. 
‘Solaris’ is a melancholic listen in the form of a three track EP that brings in the light, dives in the dark and finally grounds you.

Carl Cox is an industry figure head whos legacy in music includes his iconic label Intec, which he runs with friend and business partner Jon Rundell.

Techno focused the labels roster includes people like Nicole Moudaber, Harvey McKay, Sidney Charles plus Josh Wink, and the new release is from Saeed Younan.

Saeed Younan is one of America's top DJs, who for four years running was voted one of the worlds top 100 DJs by DJ Times, which is America's leading print publication for electronic music.

Based in Washington DC, Saeed is a popular headliner who has played everywhere from Ibiza to Tokyo, and is famed for his high energy style that fuses tribal groves with techy synth work and infectious vocal hooks.

Not only a well-travelled and successful DJ, Saeed is also an accomplished producer, who along with releases on his own label Younan Music, has featured on imprints such as Great Stuff Recordings, Spinnin' Records, Suara and Toolroom.

Having made his first appearance on Carl Cox's much famed Intec imprint in 2015, its now time for the much anticipated follow up.

"Annihilate" starts with rumbling tom drums that create the bassline and lay the foundation for the tracks rolling groove. Relentless hi-hats provide a forward momentum that adds to the menacing tension created by the vocal sample, from where track gets its title. A fusion of moods, the euphoric lead sound provides uplifting warmth, which contrasts with the overall dark and driving atmosphere.

"Pimp Slap" is percussion lead with was a primal groove typical of Saeeds much loved trademark sound. Synths are used to build suspense and the dramatic vocal stabs become hypnotic as the track progresses. Simple yet effective the main feature is a series of dancefloor focused drops where things strip back only to slam back in with increased impact and an eruption of energy.
