Solid Steel (11th April) It's another special show this week, as we celebrate 30 years of Acid with an incredible mix by Posthuman to coincide with their last I Love Acid club night at Corsica Studios, London on Saturday 12th April. This is what they say about the mix;
"We put together this mix (with a little help from fellow I Love Acid residents Mark Archer & Placid) to celebrate 30 years of acid. 
We decided to pick one track per year, since 1984 - the year Roland stopped making the 303. Starting with Chicago House, expanding out into Detroit Techno and the evolutions in the acid sound from the UK & Europe, then into the late 90's Warp/Rephlex territory, right up to the present day."
The mix starts with Chris & Cosey's 1984 classic "Dancing Ghosts" and includes tracks from Phuture, 808 State, UR, Plastikman, AFX and Luke Vibert, who will be playing at the club night, plus their own new track 'Back to Acid'

In just a short space of time and with but a few releases, Berlin based Brit Jay Donaldson has carved out his own house style. Referencing old school Chicago nostalgia whilst coming laden with analogue textures and jacked up beats, his sounds have come in the form of a couple of EPs on Lobster Theremin and are soon to be released on a debut EP for Dekmantel (out on March 16). His In Gold EP features three more spiritual house cuts with crisp percussion and elastic basslines, cosmic synths and heartfelt pads that have real purpose. Ahead of that, though, he serves up the next instalment in our podcast series. 

Starting with some deep, melodic house music the mix then smoothly transitions through some tropical sounding beats and painfully emotive vocal grooves that being to pick up the pace.  Classics like No Smoke’s 1989 cut ‘Koro Koro’ then proves Palms Trax digs deep for his musical nuggets as he journeys through hip house, Latin inflected broken beat and more experimental and harder hitting fare in the final section. The style is considered and cerebral, the music is lush and evocative and the selections are brave and fresh. As such, this is a subtly stirring mix that will awaken your week in the nicest of ways.

Aurora Halal is a producer, DJ and creator of Brooklyn’s influential Mutual Dreaming party series & the Sustain-Release festival.

Shadowy and psychedelic, her hardware live & DJ sets have a hazy sensuality and metallic dance floor intensity that’s at turns playful, dark, euphoric and emotionally vulnerable. In all her projects, she treats dance music as an are­na for trans­for­ma­tion and since 2010, her events have been root­ed in an under­ground, DIY approach that push­es for­ward-think­ing sounds, pro­duc­tion, and ideas. She’s spent the last 10 years tour­ing like-mind­ed clubs, raves, and fes­ti­vals world­wide and gained a rep­u­ta­tion for pow­er­ful, unique per­for­mances that work both the body and mind. She’s 4 years into a res­i­den­cy at NYC’s Nowa­days, is a reg­u­lar at Berghain and pre­vi­ous­ly De School.

The Sustain-Release co-founder steps up to the Phonica mix just ahead of the acclaimed festival’s 11th year. 
New York has an iconic history when it comes to club music, and over the years has seen many great names emerge from its underground scene. In modern times, Aurora Halal is undoubtedly one of those names. 
Aurora has become a staple at forward-thinking institutions like Berghain, De School, and her home base, Nowadays, where she holds a residency. Alongside her international touring, she’s carved out her own vital space through the long-running Mutual Dreaming parties and Sustain-Release, the DIY-rooted festival she co-founded, which continues to push boundaries as it enters its second decade.
Her Phonica mix offers a vivid snapshot of her deep, intuitive approach to DJing—captured live at Mansions, a cozy NYC wine bar turned house party haven. Known for her genre-fluid sets that blend hypnotic techno, house, acid and experimental textures this is the perfect calling card to showcase why she can hold it down with a range of greats like DJ Nobu, Vladimir Ivkovic and more.
We had a chat about the mix with Aurora as well as touching off Sustain and some of her favorite moments at the festival.

Underground Resistance founder Robert Hood is one of the pioneering old guard who is still doing it right today. He is the epitome of Detroit house and techno, serving up pulsing minimal, and has been since the early nineties. Last year he joined our label for a series of three EPs entitled Paradygm Shift and a full length which will see the light of day the 22nd of May. The project is aimed to take techno out of its current comfort zone and very much did so, as does Hood himself whenever he plays one of our parties. 

Now he has served up the latest mix in our series and once again subverts expectation. His hour long Paradygm Shift Mix water no time in establishing a rock solid kick drum, and then proceeds to colour the airwaves around it with hypnotic hi hat loops, rougher claps, and raw synths. As ever with Hood, it is a bouncy and fast moving mix that hurries you along at a great rate, but because there are so many thrills along the way, you are more than willing to go wherever he wants to take you.

Dekmantel Podcast 120 - Robert Hood

Marina "Dr" Rubinstein comes at her DJing from the perspective of the dancer. She grew up loving to get down to techno back home in Israeli (though she is Russian born and Berlin based) and will always be a hardcore raver at heart. It means her sets are defined by a certain energetic dynamism that finds her calling on acid, 90s rave and pumping techno to get the floor sweating. She does so at key places like ://about blank and Berghain, and this summer will play Dekmantel Festival. 

Her adventurous spirit and quest for that “special feeling” on the dance floor characterises her mix for us. It is seventy minutes of grooves designed to make you move, from rugged techno to slippery electro via pulsing kick drums that burrow deep into the night. Contrasting dark with light, wild acid with more streamlined sounds and overtly physical tracks with those that are more cerebral, it makes for an arresting trip filled with special dance floor moments.
