You know our love for Georgia’s seemingly infinite pool of talented musicians, and here’s another emerging one many of you may not know of yet, but should definitely keep an eye (and ear) on: Boya. Up with a shape-shifting electronic and techno set, the Tbilisi-based DJ and Morevi Records affiliate flaunts the breadth of his talent through a versatile selection and impeccable mixing maneuvers. The result is a two-hour jaunt into the more techno-friendly side of his very own multiverse. From springy uptempo rides to detours into more nuanced, dubbed-out sonics, through genre-unbound meanderings and muscular house flexions, the wide scope of Boya’s mix keeps beckoning us towards the unknown with every bar. Expect the unexpected.

In late 2023 I was chatting with a musician friend about labels, and whether they're really all that necessary these days. As someone mainly focused on self-releasing my music through Bandcamp, I think for the most part the answer is no. One should focus on passionately creating things and being involved in their local music community. Over time, label or not, things will hopefully start to take care of themselves on their own. I did however mention that there was one label I thought was really cool, and would definitely be interested in working with: it was Nous'klaer Audio. Incredibly, the next day I received an email from Sjoerd Oberman, who runs Nous'klaer, inviting me to join for a release and performance at Draaimolen. Of course, I was delighted to be involved. This would be my first show in the EU. I spent about 3 months preparing a new set. Having grown rather bored of CDJs and DJ mixers, I opted to prepare a live set, in which I control 8 channels of audio tracks along with drum machines and FX. This setup gives me a lot of freedom to explore new arrangements of my catalog, and better command the dynamic energy on the dance floor, pushing and pulling things forwards to capture the mood of the crowd. To prepare for Draaimolen, I organized several shows across Japan (where I live), further refining the setup after each performance, and deciding what tracks would be the best fit for the 60 minute peak time set I was scheduled to perform. I was very nervous about how my set would be received, but it ended up working very well, and was the highlight of my year. From the very start, the positive reaction from the crowd put me at ease, and Draaimolen's focus on sound and stage design gave me peace of mind, knowing that every frequency was being perfectly reproduced on the floor. I'm so grateful for the opportunity Nous'klaer and Draaimolen provided me. Long live Nous'klaer and long live Draaimolen. Thank you Sjoerd and Milo and Kani and Hannah!

I wrote this track when i was fighting a state of complete emotional unrest due to some major upheavals in my life, which made me realise how fragile we really are as human beings. More often than not we create a prison of insecurities that hold us back from breaking out of our self-created prisons. I’m sure everyone at some point goes through similar stuff so I hope the track strikes a chord with you too.

Mark Reeve makes his welcome return to the Drumcode fold with a powerful three-tracker ‘Far Away’.

In recent years Mark Reeve has become a pivotal member of the Drumcode crew. His 2015 EP ‘Run Back’ was a standout, before he backed it up strongly with ‘Nine of You’, his collaboration with Adam Beyer that featured on A-Sides Vol.5, ensuring his place in the hearts of DC fans. As further evidence of his importance to the collective, Beyer has selected him to suit up for the inaugural Drumcode Festival happening this August in association with Awakenings. 

Harking back to formative times in the ‘90s when he’d frequent Sven Väth’s legendary Omen in Frankfurt, the title track to Reeve’s ‘Far Away’ is a timeless beauty, driven by a celestial melody line and emotive bass notes that lobs it into the kind of laser-kissed territory that would make even the most jaded of raves throw their arms skyward. ‘Fragile’ follows, a classy bass-driven cut that makes its mark with deep subterranean stabs and punchy kicks. Rounding out the EP is ‘Redemption’ a tougher, heads-down techno workout imbued with plenty of energy thanks to a crafty bass melody that runs throughout.

From the depths of the Brazilian electronic music scene – specifically São Paulo – emerges a frank and authentic artist. The integrity and certainty when throwing down Victor Ruiz beats makes it easy to know that he’s landed in a DJ booth. They say that his techno sound has finally found it’s more seductive side. “From Brazil with love” read the title of that interview where he caught the attention with his qualities always supporting super fresh sounds, with fewer grooves. From then on he has been compared to artists like Maceo Plex. Over time Victor Ruiz has grown, not only his production skills but also in his sets, a breath of fresh air to the listener.

When he first stepped into a recording studio his first steps were to reinterpret his roots in a more contemporary way. A futuristic tone but at the same time racial, exciting and danceable. In other words, his sound goes straight to your heart, your head and your feet (We need all of them to dance, right?). Thanks to these components over the years he’s been winning over huge swarms of followers. Loyal followers. You can also discover on his social media and exciting tours like his collaboration with visual artist Any Mello .The perfect pair to make us move while we enjoy a visual trip.

If we start talking about his music releases we can highlight his solo works “Clutch” (Octopus), “Nevermind & Red Lights” (Senso Sounds), “Voyage” (Suara), “Brujeria” (Elevate),“Rollercoaster” and “Thunderstorm” both published on Yoshitoshi recordings, “Lucky Strike / Easy Riders” (Herzblut), “Interestellar” (Sprout Music), the EP “Orion/Speed” with K.A.L.IL. or also the EP “Draco/Serpens”, both on Electric Ballroom. Don’t forget about “The Runner” with Christian Smith on Tronic imprint; “Soul Seek” (Sprout), “Midnight Sun” (Heinz) or “Music”, “In between”, “Arise” with D-Nox & Beckers on Sudbeat Music. One of his first ever major bombs was “I look into you”, edited on Sprout Music, a massive hit on the same level as “Medusa Smile” from Konrad Black.

Much closer is this other massive bomb: his vivid tribute for the sadly disappeared Robert Miles, and his of all time classic “Children”. A late night heady techno track, set to trip you out.

His work as an official remixer is also very admirable. MOBY –what a pack he prepared for Suara remixing classics as “Natural Blues” or “Go”–, Oliver Huntemann, Stephan Bodzin , Hatzler, Thomas Schumacher, Olivier Giacomotto, Luzon…Just a few who have required his services. With Oliver Huntemann, the highly respected techno-gentleman from Hamburg, the way they got in touch was very curious, Victor made a bootleg for Oliver’s track “Magnet” a few years ago and the speculation created on social media was insane. Only on Soundcloud the bootleg had more than 240 thousand listens. In fact Senso Sounds –The label Oliver is the owner of- is without a doubt one of Victors new homes. Speaking of homes, Germany is the country that has adopted him as one of their own.

DJ/Producer, live performer and host of successful event series in Paris, Sander (@Im-Sander) is one artist that has dedicated his whole life to music. Through previous tunes, the French producer has proven his outstanding melody-writing skills. For his Crossings debut, Sander intelligently combines simple melodies with powerful grooves in a mind-blowing gem named “Floraison”, released on the first volume of the VA series “Reflection”.

Bringing together like-minded music lovers and artists was pivotal in Crossings' past and is now becoming a direction for the London based label. “Reflection Vol. 1” puts a spotlight on two unique but like-minded artists: Sander and Vander (@Vander_music), respectively the residents of Horde in Paris and the Gardens of Babylon in Amsterdam.

An atypical label, Crossings gathers through releases, events and podcast series local heroes from around the globe, such as the residents of Boneca and Unleash in London, The Gardens of Babylon in Amsterdam, Klassified in the French Riviera, Überhaus/The Gärten in Beirut, Horde in Paris and HYPE in Tunisia. It has been thought as a platform for respective underground communities to interact and grow.

Since its inception, the label has been striving to promote and focus on talents such as Parallells, Joep Mencke, Bondarev and Sam Shure Mencke who made the label unique with its distinctive melodic signature.
