This was Mariana and I’s first time playing together but we had a blast. Probably the most vinyl heavy Zone transmission ever with Mari fully in her bag and me busting out some recent purchases from when I was in Tokyo this summer. Still getting a ton of use outta this Acapellas Anonymous 12” I got at Gramaphone in Chicago as well! Thank God the turntables in the 8 Ball studio have a reverse button !! ⏮️🪿🙃

Show kicks off with me (@nickboydnyc ) solo for the first 45 minutes or so before Mariana arrived and we played b2b til the end. This one’s definitely for the Deep House Enjoyers (as well as those wishing for a smoother experience than the normal cacophonous Zone Transmission).

For RA.1000, DJ Sprinkles' first mix in over a decade is a powerful meditation on the genocide in Gaza.

Dance music often relies on simple narratives: release, escape, unity. But those narratives can often feel inadequate, and even at times, hollow. Or, as Terre Thaemlitz might bluntly put it, just "shitty."

For her first mix in around 15 years, Terre Thaemlitz AKA DJ Sprinkles, challenges us to think differently. "I felt this 1000th podcast should reflect the moment in which it was made," she told us in her Q&A.

And what is this moment? Every day since Israel's 2023 assault on Gaza began, an average of 28 children have been killed. That's an entire classroom, every day, for over 600 days (at the time of writing). It's a staggering figure that only captures a fragment of the listless cruelty imposed on the strip.

Faced with such a genocide, what can music really do? How political can it truly be?  For their RA.1000, Thaemlitz gives us an unflinching rebuke to the idea that music should provide escapism. The mix weaves ambient fragments and jazz passages, woven around samples from Israeli media and the voices of outspoken Jewish critics like Gabor Maté and Norman Finkelstein. 

The result is not just a protest, but a document of our time. For Terre Thaemlitz, music is never just music. Her RA.1000 serves as a reminder that in an age of relentless suffering, the most political act is to reject the illusion of escape, and search for something greater.

Timothy Clerkin is an Amsterdam based producer, live act & DJ, who has been releasing records, playing live & DJ’ing all over the world since 2010.

After spending a number of years cutting his teeth as one half of international DJ duo the Eskimo Twins, he has been releasing music under various solo names for a number of years now.

With a string of rabidly received EP’s with his birth moniker under his belt, he is now touring his electric & ambitious live show, which has been described as a filthy, extensive journey through clubbing.

2018 saw him launch his own label ‘Insult To Injury’ which, after only a handful of releases, has already been heavily supported by the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Optimo, Vladimir Ivkovic, Ivan Smagghe, Erol Alkan, Lena Willikens & Lovefingers.

This is a pure club mix from the artists stacked full of plenty of dance floor smashers plusing through a eclectic mix of electronic gold, through ambient electro, techno, breakbeat and chock full of acid. Rave on.

artist statement: "Music has maybe been the only enjoyable escape for me during the pandemic, and my relationship to it has taken on a new shape given that I only listen at home alone, mainly on headphones, and at odd hours. I’ve used Ableton to DJ for over a decade now, and this mix is no exception—though I wanted to do something different here, given these new listening patterns. So this is more of a 'mega mix’ style studio session, with lots of layering, edits, and quick transitions. A bit phrenetic, but the intention was to reflect some of the unease and uncertainty of the moment, while revisiting tracks I played at my last two in-person gigs in New York alongside many favorites from my years growing up in Chicago." @ken-meier
