The term "Renaissance Man" is one that Tom Mangan must be familiar with by now.  By day, Tom juggles a popular clothing brand Millionhands and a thriving family life. By night,  Tom moonlights as Tee Mango, an artist and producer with a decades long career and acclaimed works to his name; illustrious mainstays such as Caribou, Leon Vynehall, Tim Sweeney, and the Studio Barnhus team have all shown Tom support, and it's easy to see (or hear) why.

Tee Mango has every finger on the pulse of what makes a dancefloor shake, and his latest remix for Bill Brewster and Ray Mang's latest Mang Dynasty release, Crash The Box, further confirms this. We now have the absolute pleasure and delight to chat a bit with Tom about the stepper, as well as his path up to now and where it may lead next.

@midland: “With this mix I wanted to try and capture the sound of me in the club during a long set in the part of the night when you and the crowd are locked in to a groove; a time when you’re able to make left turns, but it feels totally natural. As ever unreleased records sit alongside new records alongside records that came out 10/20/30 years ago. I definitely wanted to build to a more electro/rave crescendo in the middle of this, and try and plot a course through some broken stuff towards the end. I really enjoyed recording this one!”

The Cover Mix: Midland

As another (rather unusual) year comes to an end, we close off our 2020 Mix Series with a sensational hour-long recording from one of the UK’s finest electronic music producers - Daniel Avery.

Daniel’s mix, however, is far from the ordinary. We'll let him explain in his own words below.

"The act of DJing feels like it exists on another planet at the moment but, unemployment aside, I feel fortunate to have closed my eyes this year,” Avery explains. “I’ve found a real solace in my metal box down by the water, the doors of which seemed to have been locked from the outside. In a good way. It’s all meant that the pile of new music is bigger than ever and, when asked to make a mix for my favourite dance emporium Phonica, I had the opportunity to do something different. So, to round off the slow-motion blur of 2020, here is a mixtape made up of new and exclusive stuff: unheard demos, versions, live jams and studio experiments. Most of it was made for the club. Hope you enjoy and please pass it around. I’ll see you on the other side very soon. DA xxx”
