This DJ set makes my life sooooooo better

Toronto's Cindy Li, AKA Ciel, has a knack for balancing warmth and pressure. Her productions and mixes often feel coated in an iridescent gloss, evoking the trippy stylings of '90s UK tech house and the swung drums of classic New York house. In between that, though, there's lots of vigor via sleek electro, rippling trance, barrelling techno and big, bad breakbeats. Her style may lean towards the atmospheric but it's loaded with moxie, giving her the versatility to close out a main room or kick off the afters.

Her fluid movements between bouncy basslines, spiraling synth patterns and weightless house grooves are just one facet of her impressive rise as a DJ and producer. When she's not behind the decks, presenting radio shows or working on the excellent Parallel Minds label she runs alongside other Toronto acts Yohei S and Daniel 58, Li throws herself into community work. Committed to diverse dance floors, affordable housing and overall equality in the music industry, she's a hard worker in the realest sense of the phrase.

Li's RA mix is a treat. Rolling through scintillating drum work, wonky rhythms and dreamy pads, it feels like quintessential Ciel. In her interview below, she described how she enjoys "the challenge of trying to combine and make cohesive all the diverse styles of music I loved in a DJ set." Judging by this mix alone, it's safe to say that Li succeeded.

Hannah D is a DJ and artist originating from Meanjin (Brisbane), now residing in Naarm (Melbourne) — a city with a dedicated electronic music community that sees her as a go-to for progressive sounds. Through both her music and delicately-blended mixes, Hannah has created a tangible connection around the globe with new age revivalists of the 90s and 00s sound. Aside from her own personal artistry, Hannah heads up TSBU (The Space Between Us), the successful Australian label which has a local focus on proto sounds within the progressive tech space. The TSBU discography already includes a variety of releases from Mabel, Al Dente, Gallery B, and more. 2023 has seen Hannah exceed the high expectations that are associated with her name, with a debut European tour and further additions to the ever-growing TSBU label catalogue - as well as more stellar events under both her ‘Luna Blessings’ (with DJ Luv You) and ‘Send/Return’ (with Bex) event brands. Chocked full of highlights, the first of many ‘business’ trips to Europe included a 5-hour b3b (alongside fellow Weaver artists Mabel & suki) for a sold-out warehouse event in Lyon, debut performances online and in-person in Berlin, Copenhagen and London, and a lasting impression that already has multiple northern hemisphere outfits requesting a return in 2024. She now has her sights firmly set on providing Australian audiences with further exhibitions of her sonic output - a sound that draws inspiration from both the people and places that surround her. Expect Hannah to continue going from strength-to-strength, bringing her euphoric tones to you and your friends wherever you may have the pleasure of encountering her enigmatic DJ sets.

The in-demand US DJ unfurls dubby, dance floor poetry.

Where does sentimentality fit on the dance floor? For Liv Klutse, AKA livwutang, the answer is everywhere. The New York-based DJ is guided by a deep desire to stir connection, finding themes and points of correspondence across an impressively broad range of sounds, tempos and eras. 

This emotional intuition lends Klutse's sets a depth few others can match. Her selections can seem unpredictable, rooted in an appreciation for feeling over genre—hard and soft sounds are carefully balanced with surrealism and bursts of nostalgia (for instance, the Lazy Dog bootleg edit of Everything But The Girl's "Tracey In My Room"). But as versatile as she is, a few signature traits colour her style, such as a love for dubwise music and rhythms from across the Black diaspora, alongside a refreshingly introspective energy that invites dancers to find moments of meditation—even during peak time. 

A former staffer at our New York office, Klutse has long merited an RA Podcast. Her slow-burning blends and mystical selections have graced near-enough every major festival and club out there, from Dekmantel and Sustain-Release to Nowadays, where she's been a resident since 2022. Despite this cross-continental touring schedule, she still plays plenty of grassroots venues—testament to her days with TUF collective and Orphan Radio in Seattle, as well as her enduring belief in the power of DIY, community-orientated dance music. 

"How did you come down off life?" James Massiah asks at the beginning of RA.975. Across nearly 90 minutes, Klutse's downright beautiful mix seeks answers to this question, reflecting on hedonism in times of political decay. She's in full-on dub mode, moving through meditative bassweight, glitchy house and flat-out weirdo techno with a deftness we've come to expect from one of the most promising, singular voices in dance music right now. She's got there all on her own terms—and we couldn't be prouder.

São Paulo producer and DJ Seed Selector has developed a distinctive style of melodic, progressive house shot through with funk, breakbeat and Miami bass influences.

His new four-track release, "TINHA Q SER" , arrives as a joint project from Tropicana Records and Jardineira Records.

The EP opens with “Aumenta o Som (Original Mix),” a collaboration with DJ Sanduba that combines urgent percussion and vocal fragments with a playful, block-party energy. Its counterpart, the “Solteira Mix,” strips the track back into looser, freer form, letting the rhythm expand into open space.

On the flip, “Dump of Life (Original Mix)” drives into heavier territory: a hypnotic, percussive workout with basslines that trace the tension of city nights. The “Vapo Mix” reworks it into something sharper and more vaporous, pushing towards a psychedelic release.

"TINHA Q SER" underlines Seed Selector’s range: funk-infused house with both weight and freedom, rooted in São Paulo’s underground but reaching outward to European dance floors.

⁠Seed Selector & DJ Sanduba - Aumenta o Som (Original Mix) – Tropicana Records

I recorded this mix in 2018 for the Her Damit festival and titled it the Mystery of the Motherbeat. I was hungry to tour Europe for the first time and agreed to do a mix and play the festival on a shoestring budget. Her Damit went into bankruptcy later that year, failing to pay artists and others for their work.  They also let their Soundcloud account expire, losing all the mixes they commissioned for the series. 

I am re-releasing this mix under its original name. Its real name. It is one of my deepest mixes. It is filled with the love and hope for the future that I put into it. It was recorded a week before I went to visit Maya and Brooke for the first time in March of 2018, exactly two years ago. That visit would change my life.
