Coco Bryce (@cocobrycebeats) is a veteran of the drum & bass scene, but also one of its most cutting-edge artists. The Breda-born DJ and producer is a master of intricate drum patterns and superbly warm and emotive pads. His silky, soulful sounds some with deft vocals and proper piano riffs that are always on the more minimal end of the spectrum, but still make a lasting impact. Next to his own Myor label, he has landed on the likes of Critical Recordings, Lobster Theremin and Fresh 86, and in 2022 alone he has put out at least six different EPs. 

True to his prolific form, this week's mix is packed with his own exclusive and unreleased tunes as well as gems from Paradox, Denham Audio and DJ H. It adds up to an absorbing hour of stylish and stripped-back rhythms that both float in the cosmos and root you to the dance floor. Lush chords and subtle waves of euphoria permeate the whole mix and make it as emotionally touching as it is physically moving.

"You can't take a sound and exclude the people who created it and say, this is our sound," DJ Noir said in our 2020 feature about Juke Bounce Werk, the label she-cofounded. "No, it's either Chicago footwork or it's other." 

Back then, the Los Angeles-based imprint and crew was still primarily focused around footwork, but Noir and co—including artists like Kush Jones, DJ SWISHA, Surly and Sonic D—have branched out into all sorts of uptempo sounds, touching on house, UK garage, jungle and funk, but always with the fleet-footed approach that makes JBW what it is. "We used to sit down and say, we have to make 160, or we have to keep it footwork and juke," Jones said in that same feature, "but we are also like, if you are strong and developed in another sound, then you should also be free."

Sitting atop this empire of boundary-breaking, innovative dance music is DJ Noir, who is one of LA's best uptempo DJs, or honestly, of any genre. Her sets can be speedy and intense, sure, but it's the way she lets off steam at just the right moments, or gracefully dips into halftime, maybe even a spot of dubstep, that really sets her apart. The LA scene is spoiled to be able to see her DJ quite frequently, but along with the artists she tirelessly promotes and develops with JBW, she deserves a wider, more global spotlight. We hope her RA Podcast might convince you of that, too, an hour of remarkable DJing and skillful blending that connects continents and scenes, from Alix Perez to INVT to Nikki Nair and Bastiengoat. Nowadays NYC - Facta & K-Lone - 4 hour B2B - 06/08/2022

Djoser is the moniker of Egyptian-born producer Shady Daoud. Now based in Washington DC he has risen to prominence through his singular approach to sound design which draws upon influences from Bass and Dubstep alongside his studies of Nubian music. As such, the end result is often fascinating and frantic, his sound unique and unnerving on the dancefloor in the best way.

His last release came out on the prominent record label 3024, the imprint run by Martyn. This in and of itself demonstrates the pedigree of his sound and his careful attention to detail having garnered the respect of a figurehead of the local scene and a renowned musician on the global circuit.

More recently we received a promo copy of his new EP on Loosee which has been on heavy rotation and picked up by a number of DJ's in the know ever since.

All of this bodes very promisingly for an artist we expect is destined for big things - this mixtape is a statement of intent and we are delighted to welcome him to the series. Watch out..

In the run up to my return to Fabric this weekend, the club have kindly released the audio of my 2015 FABRICLIVE CD for free streaming on soundcloud (The first time it’s been available on any streaming platforms in any form)

The aim with the CD was to create a mix that you could return to & even though its almost eight years old (!) I feel that it still holds it own today 😋

Twelve of the twenty seven tracks were made specifically for the CD and still only exist on this mix (See each track with a * in the tracklist below)

3024:   Please describe the mix in a single sentence ? 

BRC :  "I’d say the mix was like water, a natural flow that we usually lock into when we’re DJing together."


3024: What DJ inspires you at the moment / has inspired you throughout the years and why?

BRC: "For inspirations, I’d say a lot of the greats who came before us that we’ve had the opportunity to perform with. Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, etc. We haven’t had the opportunity to perform with him yet but Goldie is also an inspiration. These are folks that paved their own way ya know."



3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming? 

BRC: "BRC 3 is in the works and is slated for release next year. We also have individual projects slated for release next year also."
