Returning to be perceived through Exos’ pounding Planet X lens, 3Ddancers you could do anything brings 12 punchy tracks cut from live performances at Kraftwerk, Human, RSO, Mjut, Arkaoda and Funkhaus, following the 4 hour “new exciting toys” of 2022. As one has come to expect from the trio, the industrial techno-y electro IDM dances between the cool and surreal, at times reaching almost comical absurdity. Swaying from the serene to the abrasive, the sound is rough and alive - thick low end and sharp highs ever-present.

Starting with the surreal, cool it doot, Catnip and byte me pack a disorientating punch to prepare the listener for what's to come. Carnival Engine Room (Alex’s Guitar Edit) gives us some soothing atmospheric respite before we descend into the sonic violence of swarm unit, really highlighting 3Ddancers signature groovy thumping crunch. The momentum isn’t lost from there, returning briefly to the surreal with Feel Something Weird Now, only to continue punching through with roadworks, Feel Me Now, and hopscotch. you could do anything adds some rolling bassline to the mix along with some meme vocals, after which we conclude the absurdity in WHATSUPP MOTHERFUCKERS and ending in the reds with continue.

'One' is the debut album from burgeoning Portuguese techno producer Afonso Esperança aka Backbone @backbone-3

After his 'Gatekeeper' EP (COUNTER033), including the iconic 'Take A Trip' which gathered support far and wide, Backbone stretches out over nine wonderfully detailed and intense tracks.

Exploring the modern techno paradigm, 'One' is full of positively charged, bassline-driven heaters. The founder of the Vinculum Festival in Portugal, Esperança's unique sound design, vocal FX and tension-heavy arrangements carve a clear course from the heart to the dancefloor. From the tingling ambient intro of 'Mundo Novo' straight into the addictive 'Press To Regenerate' its clear there's countless details to discover forged into these tracks.

Counterchange founder Inland straps in on 'Generation Gap', one of the early highlights of the album, with its surging industrial pulse and funky forward momentum.

The stunning broken beats and bleeps of 'There Is No Spoon' hit hard and dark while remaining elegant and certainly not over-driven. Every track on the LP is a microcosm of Backbone's kinetic techno manifesto - he infuses a rich stereo image, textured crunch and silky bass-end bounce on stand-out tracks like 'Strike A Dose', 'Minucioso' and 'No Casket Space'.

Bringing the album to a close with the night-time drive of 'Ride The Snake', Backbone summons the spirits of his mountainous home region in a hypnotising, shamanic ritual for the closing sets.

In a time beyond time when the boundaries between dimensions were screamed louder than a
cosmic loom, the entities Property and si’nedd emerged into existence. They were forces of
nature, not bound by physical laws but intertwined with universal essence. Property, the
embodiment of structure and form, was the stabilizing force in a world of chaos, while si’nedd, a
radiant entity of light and potential, sparked a dynamic touch. The people of the land, who lived
in the vast plains of Feld and the sun-drenched deserts of Liwa, watched in awe, coining this
phenomenon the shining regeneration of renewal and unity, all in accordance with the 8th
hexagonic chapter of this endless belief.

Today, the power unleashed in their encounters reverberates through the fabric of reality,
causing ripples that can heal. The wise ones of the ancient world, adepts of the I'Ching, are fully
aware of this feat. Consulting in the sacred texts of I’Ching, we begin to understand the
necessity to Unite, to bring forces together in harmony rather than to conflict. Not everyone has
to understand the intensity of Property and si’nedd's connection. In the quiet village of Adevo,
nestled between the mountains of Belan and the forests of Skai, the people experience both
Dolor and Noxa—pain and harm—when forces are unbalanced.

There – the nearby fields, the Ventu winds blow gently, Onie flowers are blooming, symbols of
hope and healing, whispering that with unity comes the potential for the construction of the great
temple of Belan.

As the cycle of encounters continues, the villagers begin to understand the deeper rhythm of the
book. They realized that the union of Property and si’nedd isnot merely an event but a
process—a weaving of existence that neither begins nor ends with the measurement of time.
The wise leader we call Somni, slides in to remind us of the following teaching we hold so dear
to our hearts: "We sleep, but the loom of life never stops, and the pattern which was weaving
when the sun went down is weaving when it comes up tomorrow." With this, the people of
Adevo, Liwa, and beyond now embrace the blend of creation and destruction.

We open our eyes –

In the heart of Adevo, within the temple of Belan, there stands a mysterious mirror, said to
reflect not just the physical form but the very soul of those who gaze into it. Yes, you – yes, me.
This mirror is believed to hold the secrets of unity, for when two stood before it, their reflections
would merge, revealing a single, harmonious entity. We are reminded that "holding together
means uniting," a principle that is echoed in the teachings of the 8th hexagram. It has been said
that only through true unity can the forces of Property and Si’nedd be balanced on a string of
harmonic madness –
In moments when life moves quickly and the pace of existence is overwhelmed by threats, the
mirror offers a stillness, urging those who look into it to slow down.

"The way does not speak," the elders whisper, "but in its silence, it guides." It is in this quietude,
this space of reflection, that the villagers are discovering their inner guidance, learning to
navigate the complexities of life by holding together, united in purpose and spirit, even as the
world around them swirls with the chaos of change – or rather, the Book of Change.

Roebin de Freitas has been prolific as of late and more is yet to come. The second EP of Perfidious for instance, is a three tracker full of (un)conventional techno music.

Based on Steven Pinker's 'The Better Angels of Our Nature', the EP opens shop with an offbeat kick followed by an eerie and intricate synth pad called 'Circle of Sympathy'. Quirky and snappy percussion adds that splash of energy making this track excellent for some high brow dance floor action.

'Zero-sum Game' is full of game and will have you reaching for that gain. The droned out bass line and fast arpeggiated bells set the pace relentlessly. No way back!

Third and final track 'Parent-offspring conflict' is the hidden treasure of this EP. A broody bass is at the core when the clap slaps your right in the face. Waves and splashes of synth pads come crashing in more and more for that outer body experience to come through. It will have you yearning for more...

As we turn to the next episode. Eric arranged to meet his father in a cold abandoned warehouse on an industrial estate on the other side of town, a building he knew only too well from just a couple years back. He’d been hanging out with his squatter mates and this is one of a few places they’d frequent. He’d been up to no good well that’s what his father used to say anyway. “I knew you’d come to nothing, you little piece of shit” his father said. “I gave everything to you and this is how you treat me, you ungrateful backstabbing waste of space”, as he sat there cable tied to an old wooden chair, rocking on its uneven legs, now knowing he had been lured under false pretences. “But did you really give me everything?”, Eric said as he sat there staring at canvas sack that covered his father’s disturbed and angered face, whilst he held his gun casually on his lap contemplating his next move…

The soundtrack is the first contribution by Stephanie Sykes of the Midlands, UK. With a history behind her connection to Prodigal Son, she steps up with two of her most impactful pieces to date, “Walking Alone” & “Glimmer Of Existence”. A mind full of inspiration, of sounds taken in from recent ventures and a wealth of experience from her residencies. Having had a very special 2016 this is only the beginning for Stephanie and a sampler for what’s to come. Her tracks are remixed on the flipside of the record, the brutality of South Londoner, Ansome, with his version of “Walking Alone”. Then the melodies of “Glimmer Of Existence” takes a philharmonic reworking from one of Glasgow’s finest Edit Select.
