Hailing from Jersey City, multi-hyphenate artist, Robert Van Liew aka DJ DX addresses
the elephant in the room with a new socially conscious single, “Run Bro” featuring Nadia
Gold. Coming with a little over 4 minutes of knowledge, “Run Bro” is bar after bar of keen
insight, as DJ DX speaks on America’s current state of affairs. Unlike many conscious
records coming out, “Run Bro” touches on issues affecting everybody, regardless of race,
income level or social status. Topics such as Flint, Michigan’s ongoing water crisis, the
recent surge in police brutality towards innocent Black men and the devastating 2018
California Wildfires that caused over $3.5 Billion in damages. Overall, leading DJ DX to
question the religion he’s been given and demand due reparations.
 


“Run Bro” shines in DJ DX’s wisdom and ability to connect the dots, veering off into what
most artists are afraid to mention out fear of hurting their pockets or polarizing their
fanbase. Lines like, “While the rich is getting richer and and getting aroused, young men
are getting deployed or getting gunned down” and “Honestly, I’m trying to live in
sovereignty. But all I see is white cops trying to do harm to me” put DJ DX’s passion for
the people on full display. While Western movie-inspired production complement the
tracks’ narrative of collective sorrow and change on the horizon. Nadia Gold’s soulful
vocals add to it’s aesthetic, as she lays her lines with calm, cool and collected authority.

 

In an overwhelmingly materialistic world where most musicians play follow the leader, DJ
DX is bringing Hip Hop back to it’s original superpower of sparking social change. Listen
carefully as he pumps out not only skilled lyricism, but nourishing food for thought. Simply
