This weeks mix features an artist which helped shape my love for atmospheric drum & bass, Omni Trio. From early on, his work has been at the forefront of drum & bass and was a "purchase without listening" artist for my collecting purposes. 
One of my earliest purchases was Music For The Next Millennium. It was released just prior to my collecting vinyl, but I have managed to keep the CD since 1995. It even survived the great CD theft from my first home in Columbus!
Usually not tracks I mix, as I prefer the vinyl format, I thought it would be nice to mix them via the Traktor platform since they were so influential in my development as a listener and DJ. The mix includes most of the cuts from the LP, save for a few remixes so as not to double up.

Aria presents: M-MM 066

This weeks mix features a compilation released on Moving Shadow, Blueprint (The Definitive Moving Shadow Album). I chose to use this 4x12" LP for a few reasons. 
First, the tracks on it are simply great. Every single one of them! 
Second, there are some absolutely CLASSIC titles on it from artists who provide a catalog of essential listening.
Third, it's VERY hard to encapsulate the sound of "Moving Shadow" in a single release. This LP comes as close as I think any have.
For those who followed the label and it's various sub-labels, you know that their sound can't be distilled into one general genre of drum & bass.
Good Looking Records is a great example of this. While it remains one of my all time favorite labels, it never really strayed from a basic genre. There were oddities of course but for the most part, when you bought a release from GLR/LGR or it's sub-labels you knew it was atmospheric drum & bass.
Moving Shadow was very different. Their format was much more wide open with releases ranging from jazzy atmospheric material to dark and hard while including EVERYTHING in between! I don't think you could fairly state MS had a "sound."
I think this various artists release is emblematic of the Moving Shadow brand and what it represented in the world of drum and bass over the years.

This weeks mix is another one featuring stateside producer and label owner martianMan, aka Damon Yates. Specifically, the first four releases on his self titled label, MM 001 - MM 004, are all featured here.
These tracks take me back to an era where Atmospheric Drum and Bass was king. Sprinkle in some drum funk flavor and you get a fresh new take on a classic style.
