Acronym - Realisation

DSC is enjoying its most productive year to date, and its not even half way through. Cliche Morph is a mysterious new entity, debuting with Liquid Materia. The title track melts streams of melody, chords dissolve in currents as a steady thump tries to tame the sonorous swash. Claudio PRC, of Prologue fame, interprets the tides of the original. Aquatic ambience floods speaker as sounds are kept below the waves in a dream state. “Impulse Inside Mechanism” pulls you further into the haunted machinery of Cliche Morph. Wraithlike harmonies ache, ghosting between steady percussion for a work of palpable emotion. That tactile quality comes to the fore with “Alternative Solution.” Rhythms are given extra girth, bass lines given extra room as strings swim before they soar.

After 22 light-years Luke Slater’s Planetary Assault Systems keeps exploring space and time with different musical means. Staying true to the project’s initial mission statement, Slater comments on the new yet familiar musical direction: “For me music has to go forward. I’d feel I was cheating by sticking to tried and tested formulas. There’s a valid use for these, but this album has its own agenda.” With Arc Angel, Planetary Assault Systems departs to new musical frontiers by focussing on melody, but staying rooted in the purist values of Techno that Slater shaped over his decades- and generations-spanning career.

The artist behind the fourth New York Trax release needs no introduction. Steve Stoll is one of the pioneers and founding fathers of New York techno. Producing pure, minimalist analogue-minded techno (even though his career began as a drummer with the industrial label Wax Trax), Steve Stoll has recorded for his own label Proper NYC, Trax Records, Djax, Nova Mute and many more, including his recent appearances on Nina Kraviz's imprint Trip. This record on New York Trax is the essence of Steve Stoll's style: minimal, driving, with a subtle groove that sinks in the rich texture of sound. It connects the dots between the past, present, and the future of the New York sound.

BNJMN presents Body Reflections Pt.2 - the second step in his new, subdued and intricate sonic direction.

The EP opens with “Undulations”, an emotional number on which delayed rhythmic elements gradually introduce minor chords. “Lyra” is a slow burning march, offset with an offbeat clap, giving the track a stron sense of decay and disorder. 

On the flip, "Earth Shock” is an atmosphere laden piece starting with a sombre, slow melody that gets increasingly drowned out by harsh, industrial textures. The piece eventually reaches power electronics territory before returning to its onset. 

“Severance” is a tense affair. Layered synths meet stuttered kicks. Metallic stabs come puncturing and piercing rimshots provide rhythmic clarity. The EP closes with the fluttering and delightfully ghastly "Ghost Faction". 

Body Reflections Pt.2 is deeply illustrative of BNJMN’s ability for creating nuanced and delicately balanced layers, and a culmination of his vast experience.

On Nov 17th, 2012, we had a visit from a star player from the Pryda|Friends camp.
Rising star - JEREMY OLANDER - came thru and dropped some musical knowledge on our fine citizens of the Windy City republic.  Some really fantastic music was played all night, starting with birthday boy Victor Tormenta, followed by my good buddy and SpyBar pointman - Wahi.  Jeremy O then came on and made some heads explode, and then I was left to clean-up hit.  And I feel pretty confident in saying that things cleaned up nicely.  Haha!
It was an honor to throw it down and close out an amazing night of dance music.
There was a moment or two in there where I thought Vision was implode from people going nuts on the dancefloor.  Seriously...
Massive thanks to all of you who were there and helped make this night a really memorable one.  If you listen closely, you might even hear yourself hootin' and hollerin'!
