"(...) What are the underlying rules that make certain genres acceptable or not? Seeing the term guilty pleasure pop up~ where does the guilt comes from ? By understanding that music taste is part of our habitus (roughly meaning your framework tends to be shaped by the social groups you have been part of/identify with) can I still vibe with music genres from communities I don’t share the same values with? (an exemple would be music « linked » to yt liberal/« bros » audiences, like house/edm/post skrillex dubstep)

I realized that, to my experience, cringe is basically internalized social rules that have been forced into you through traumatic events, usually shaming during childhood, making you understand what is or isn’t socially acceptable. 
Cringing being your mirror neurons telling you that you’d be marginalized/excluded from the group if you engaged in said activity/situation that makes you cringe, hence making you unconsciously restrain yourself.

Through this series I’d like to open up a space that allows artists to embrace cringe to the fullest, because in the end, if everything/everyone is cringe, nothing is and it gives us the ability to engage with reality and ourselves in a fresh, more authentic way, free of these arbitrary « good taste » rules that are bound to be broken anyway, the cycle of cringe seemingly accelerating in correlation with our consumption of culture. With the double compilation “Infinite Summer: Ekstase & Fantasi”, katharsis celebrates the return of raves and concerts to society after a long period of pandemic shutdown. A magical summer has past filled with a great pallet of emotional material, ready to be expressed. Therefore, we encouraged a collection of artists we adore to channel their imagination of the greatest way to conclude an endless summer night with into a piece of music.

This resulted in a grand assemblage of harmonious manifestations, naturally splitting into two divisions with opposing focuses. In contrast to the first part of the duology “Ekstase”, which focused on euphoric and dancefloor-oriented outputs, this second part “Fantasi” has a more serene and introverted focal point. The majority of the tracks seem to be meant to stop time in deep reflection with a placid sunrise as the backdrop, exemplified by the purgative opener “salomé” by Aestum, but the listener will find occasional rhythmic outpourings like the unhurried clubby vibes on awbluu’s “Rosalyne (Voxen)” or the beautiful melodic “we will get where?” by Beham.

This compilation was made by beautiful humans from all around the world. It is a collection of 11 varied tracks. It is noisy, experimental, sometimes brutal, with choir, different languages, vocals, piano and drums... While the tracks are all different, they are united by the fight against domestic violence.

As you may know, this pandemic is a nightmare for women facing domestic and sexual abuse. In many situations they have been forced into lockdown with their abuser.

The money raised on Bandcamp will go to La Fédération Nationale Solidarité Femmes, a French charity helping women in distress. Please consider buying this release if you appreciate it and spread the word about the current situation.
