First things first – Slum People is a disastrously clunky name for a House Music duo. This is less to do with the specific pairing of words and more a case of what the latter part will immediately evoke in the mind of any house fan; They used a House Music Name Generator to select this new identity (what’s yours? it could be Fearless Dominator, which, funnily enough, is what our parents were going to call us if we’d been  girls.)

The synergistically titled “F.U.M.V.U.D.H Ep” summons a sun and moon dynamic that, intentional or non, resonates quite well within the moods and inflections of the individual pieces. On “Blow Up Da Spot & Creep Me” pinpoint bursts of euphoria erupt from collisions of synth and sample over a steadily brushed beat. Heralding the day to our impending night, the piece's are systematically torn between energized momentum of high noon and the lethargic daze of sun-soaked spring.

Then comes the inevitable moonrise of “To Make It & KnucKle Box” which plays out in inverse. Born out of a quiet, lingering hum, the more enigmatic piece is driven largely by sparse, twinkling pegs of synth. Lower basslines disperse the illusion of serenity, conjuring the lingering chaos of darkness. Eventually, several layers of synth lines collude in creation of a harmonic unity that joins the high-end’s tranquility and low-end’s uncertainty in serene acceptance of the night sky’s uncertainties.

Incidentally, I was just thinking- it miiiight have been better to pay someone else to do this- y'know, say nice things, draw dubious but impressive comparisons to great labels, generally concoct a lot of flim-flam for the cut-and-pasteables.
