My daughter just turned 5 and she's super obsessed with kaiju and big monsters! Every day she tells me about the kaiju that are emerging from mountains and walking the earth. Halloween is upon us and with so many monsters on my mind, I thought about how freaky it would be to look up and see the moon cracking across its surface as an inner glow spills out - what would it be like for those of us on Earth, looking up as the great egg hatches?

This track, which is kind of a proof of concept for the idea and which will be expanded into a longer track, was made partly to familiarize myself with a bunch of cool tools from the IK Multimedia 25th Anniversary Group Buy. Every sound is made with some kind of IKMM tool in this one - drums are me playing MODO Drum, guitars are me playing through Amplitube 5, synths are me playing Syntronik Deluxe and Sampletron 2. Other IKMM tools are in use also, including Mix Box, the Comprexxer, EQ-PB, Sunset Sound Studio Reverb (doing some heavy lifting on this track, really liking that reverb), and Lurssen Mastering Console for post-mix treatment.

I also made good use of a Fuse Audio compressor I got in their Halloween sale, and the Black Rooster Halloween VPRE-73 (available only until the end of Halloween...!) which, you probably ought to know, has some wicked ghost pirate skulls on it. Seriously though VPRE-73 HW edition is used a few places in the track and adds a bit each place it's in plus crisps the drums and gives one of my synth tones a lot of breakup, while still fitting in the mix nicely. Digging it.

With all that Halloween goodness mixed in, this track should be at least a little spooky!
