Australian newcomer Jad & The Ladyboy starts off proceedings for Retrofit in 2014 along with the help of the talented singer Stee Downes (Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical). On ‘No Turning Back’ instantly catchy vocals fit right in with the bright, sparkling melodies and an easy two-step groove. 

Art of Tones takes the reins on the A-side with a club version that already looks to be a staple in dj sets leading into the coming spring. A bouncing bassline coupled with layers of melody and perfect use of the original vocals make this a club ready tune for dancefloors of all sizes. 

With ‘Turning Back to House’ on the flipside, Jad reworks his original mix into a driving hypnotic affair with dubbed out vocals, thick bass, and tripping noises that do wonders in the later hours of the evening. Label boss Jay Shepheard rounds things off with a synth workout that expands upon the analog jive of Jad’s rework, giving the EP a wide breadth of styles that makes it one of Retrofit’s best releases yet.

Young blood is the theme for Retrofit so far in 2014. Following the successes of his recent EP’s on Jimpster’s Freerange Records and John Talabot’s Hivern Discs, Barcelona-based Kresy contributes a pair of warm, summery house cuts for the A-side.  He crafts a pair of immersive environments with lush melodies that meander casually around their insistent grooves.

On the other hand we have Borai. The Bristolian best known for his excellent contributions to the rising Tasteful Nudes imprint gives us a much darker impression. While ‘Mingo’ and ‘Albatross’ seem to soundtrack an oceanside sunset, ‘Nightfall’ and ‘Chromosphere’ are clearly meant for the late hours of the night.

Kresy takes over the decks for the next edition of the Retrofit podcast series. The Barcelona based youngin has been riding a nice wave after successful releases on Jimpster's Freerange Records and John Talabot's Hivern Discs, so we were more than happy to have him on board our most recent 12" along with Bristol's Borai. His contribution to the EP is a pair of flowing, atmospheric house cuts, and this mix follows along in a similar vein. Soundscapes and warm chords are the name of the game here - enjoy!
