I have always kinda liked the game "Yoshi". It's not the deepest puzzle game, but to me the way it controlled (instead of moving the blocks as they fall, you had to swap the piles left and right so they'd land in the right place) made it special. It's the same reason I like Clu Clu Land more than most people I know <3

There is one huge problem with Yoshi's Island... Baby Mario. Every time I get hit I have to listen to his WAAAH WAAAH WAAAH and it is like a knife in my eardrum. I can't explain how intensely I hate that sound, and it makes me annoyed that when I catch him in his bubble I am so relieved at the silence that I get sloppy and tend to immediately get hit again, starting the cycle of rage anew. I also credit Yoshi's Island with starting that habit of platforming games to, at the end of a level, inform you cheerfully that you only got like 72% of what you were supposed to. I know there were secrets in Super Mario World, but if you just ran straight to the flagpole you still got a fanfare. The game didn't rub your face in how you didn't do it perfectly. Basically everything else about Yoshi's Island is great, but those two things cast a bit of a pall over it for me.
