“Takeda Lullaby” is a hauntingly beautiful folk song rooted in the sorrowful lives of young girls in Japan’s Meiji era. Originally sung by komori (child caretakers) in the Takeda region of Kyoto, the lullaby gives voice to their silent suffering — girls sent away from their families to care for the children of wealthier households, often with no protection, no pay, and no way home.

This version honors the stillness and weight of that history. Carried by gentle melodies and aching silence, it echoes a quiet resistance — the lullaby of a girl who rocks someone else’s child to sleep while dreaming of her mother’s arms.
