I've been sculpting and rendering dancers using tools in virtual reality. It's been fast and fun. There's nothing too deep going on here - an expression of dancing and a mix to go with it.

My mix is fast, quick mixing, a bit rough and ready; a link between Detroit, Glasgow, Lisbon, Angola, Ghana, Durban, Iceland, New York, Rio. Recorded in East London on CDJ-2000's 16.05.2021

For Return To The Dance 002 I'm excited to present a dance floor-ready, densely packed mix of original releases and edits by Gafacci.

Gafacci creates Asokpor; the music of his local scene in Accra, Ghana. Expect hard hitting Afro-dance influenced by everything from South African Gqom to Angolan Kuduro, Tarraxo, Afro House, Afrobeat, Techno and Electro. 

With an impressive list of collaborators including Amaarae, Bryte and Lazee and a musical output that ties threads between the mainstream and the underground Gafacci is serious about dance music and this mix is a powerful snapshot of his ability to lay down some pretty serious heat.

Return To the Dance 003 welcomes a mix by Samia entitled Daytime Dancing.

New mix, new art.

Despite clubs being closed Samia has been busy making her mark on the dormant scene this past year; through her own show on Radio Flouka, her guest mix for Manara's Pure Spice show on BBC Asian Network and her release and mixes for the Daytimers collective; a 'showcase and celebration of South Asian artistry in London'. 

Samia's mixing is informed by everything from the eclectic global sound of the London club scene, to her own Bangladeshi roots; meaning you can expect Bollywood and South Asian melodies crashing into Electro, Techno, Reggaeton, Batida and everything inbetween.

Playing some of the latest South Asian club and dance sounds from the Daytimers latest compilation, DT002, in aid of Covid Relief for India.

This mix pays homage to DJ Rita Ring, the first female DJ of dance music in Bangladesh.

New mix, new art!

Surati embraces her Persian heritage in her name; meaning pink, and her euphoric mix could easily be a love letter to the hot weather and warm, vibrant colours it draws from. Undoubtedly a runner for the feel-good mix of the summer, we bounce between hazy vocal house, chunky garage cuts and irreverent, deranged pop remixes synonymous with PC Music and the Nightcore scene, to which Surati has been a long-time contributor; having made a name for herself with a string of nightcore edits, mashups and playing parties for Bangface, UMRU and GFOTY.

‘This mix was inspired by the feeling I’m missing, of rushing to the dance floor to catch a song I’ve been waiting for or one that takes me by surprise. As a DJ that’s the feeling my sets are all about - to let people just go for it and not take themselves too seriously - whatever the genre!

New art, new mix.

Karthik Poduval has been laying down danceable grooves for over a decade; a multi instrumentalist and one of the founding members of the Tropical-Psychedelic Flamingods, a member of South Asian Collective, Daytimers, and most recently kicking off his Mera Bhai alias. Here we see a deeper reflection on his electronic influences, taking from Disco, Acid House and Techno to the entire musical spectrum of the South Asian Diaspora including Indian Carnatic Music and influences from his globe-trotting upbringing.

Undoubtedly a bright future for the Mera Bhai project with his debut EP Futureproofing having had huge support from radio, the likes of Lauren Laverne, Jamzsupernova, Don Letts, Naina, and more jumping on board, to Hyponik, Clash, Ransom Note, Electronic Sound and more at press - huge club ready edits dropping left and right, and a more recent collaboration with Andrew Ashong showing the range of his sound. Recent residencies and guest mixes include BBC Asian Network, Rinse FM, India's Boxout FM, Melodic Distraction, and Trippin World.

Mera Bhai’s mix for Return To The Dance has a loose and fast energy “This one actually took me a few passes. I did a few different iterations of it but felt like this one really captured the energy of what you’ve been doing and presenting with Return to the Dance. It was all very off the cuff, lots of tracks I've never mixed before, so a lot of quite shady/loose late night club blends which I unusually quite enjoyed”. Expect raw funk samples, deep grooves, synths, chuggy acid basslines and disco double claps.

Meddle's own percussion heavy productions are sparse and textural - influenced by dancehall, grime and footwork. His most recent release on Tobago Tracks see's collaborations with vocalists lou___iza, 100 rogue and endogo fm but never strays into predictable producer-vocalist territory, working vocals into the mix as another percussive tool.

For RTTD radio Meddle lays down some warmer optimistic grooves, to "lament the summer than never was".

Return to The dance is back for RTTD 008 with the hardest, sweatiest fist-clencher yet. 

Production duo Klotang; the collaborative project between London's Klahrk and Otang, deliver an hour long mix reminiscent of their own 90's rave tinged productions, beefy breaks, hoover bass and outer m25 euphoria.

The mix was assembled with Otang and Klahrk in separate cities, sending the file back and forth until it was fully formed - a snapshot of what both artists are listening to right now.

First met Matteo back in 2014 when we both had work at a bring your own projector exhibition in South London, since then he's directed videos for like the likes of TSVI and Ehua, utilising interactive software such as Unreal engine and Touch Designer for his live AV performances. His own music productions have found homes on Nervous horizon, and the iconic Chinese label SVBKVLT with whom he released his first solo record as Seven Orbits.
