The confines of the rulebook left little room for imagination or free spirit. It was not so much in what the text read but in the semiotics which were implied. He put the book back upon the dusty shelf and decided to move on for the day, this was no time for reckless abandonment but for celebration and positive thought. Who cares what the rule book read anyway? It was time for him to settle and do his own sweet thing. The time was now. 

This next one is from a secretive producer very close to our hearts here at Ransom Note. It's always nice to see a friend do well and this is a thoroughly excellent EP on Sheik 'N' Beik.

Amygdala is Evert Van Stappen, a techno producer and member of the subsekt community, hailing from Belgium. 
The EP is themed around introspection, as the artist was expressing feelings he was having during periods of inward reflection. 
Alienation, existential despair, fatalism, the nihilistic urge to burn it all down and the silent pain of unanswered love are all themes that helped form the music. 
From the artists mind to your ears, subsekt is the method of transmission.

As per usual, I conducted a jam session which took approximately three hours, and in which I experimented with a vast amount of sounds, settings and samples, and recorded the result in stereo in Audacity. In a posts-production step within Audacity, I extracted the best parts from that jam session in order to create this track. As always, I only used basic audio editing techniques like simple crossfades. Only a touch of soft limiting was applied, no elaborate approaches like mastering were used whatsoever. Thus, the result is raw and highly dynamic in nature, so put on your favourite headphones and turn up that volume knob, because the Loudness War is for losers!

In this particular jam session, I played back several physics lectures by the amazing Walter Lewin. I fed the audio via the Doepfer A-119 through the Mutable Instruments Clouds to create the effects on the voice. The usual combination of Arturia MicroBrute, Eurorack and the Boss RC-300  complements this experiment.


Please bear in mind that this track doesn't reflect my ability to create live music on the fly in one go, like many great artists can do. As most of my tracks, this one is free for download.
