Captives are back and with more crushing heaviness than ever. Afterimage, Captives’ second release, features powerfully atmospheric guitar work, intoxicating melodic harmonies, brooding drum beats, and crushingly emotional vocals from dual-vocalists Jeffery Mudgett and Trevor Bookout.

These five new tracks showcase the growth and evolution Captives has accomplished as a promising band on the rise and further builds the theme established on their 2012 EP, My Eyes Are Open. An afterimage is a visual image retained after looking at something vivid, an image you can still see after you've turned away or closed your eyes. Even after minutes the illusion will remain if the image was distinct enough. Afterimage represents still seeing and feeling those things that are no longer with us, when only an impression remains.

Afterimage is set to release on August 20, 2013 via Reveille Records. Pre-orders will be up for the vinyl version of the release on the same day.

Being in a punk/hardcore band from Richmond, VA is somewhat of a double edged sword. On one hand you are following in the footsteps of such legendary acts as Avail, Strike Anywhere, and Government Warning. On the other side of things, you’re constantly trying to stand out musically in a city brimming with spectacular artists. A problem BOXER knows all too well. After watching their past musical endeavors disintegrate before their eyes, lifelong friends Ian Hurdle (Drums) and Grayson Wallace (Guitar, vocals) decided to team up together and start something new; fresh. Inspired by all forms of music and art, they sought to create something that incorporated their broad musical inspirations (indie/alt. rock, experimental, jazz, punk, hardcore) in a way that was harmonious and natural. A feat that would not have been possible without Stewart Jester’s (Guitar, vocals) haunting harmonies to compliment Wallace’s gravelly growl and Dewey Zei (Bass) providing the emotional backbone with his moody melodies that compliment the warm and tight beats of Hurdle.

In 2011, BOXER released their debut EP “Undertow” for free via Bandcamp and began touring in support, sharing the stage with the likes of Balance and Composure, Turnover, Lemuria, Daylight and Eyes Wide. This summer Reveille Records will be releasing “Undertow” on a very limited (250) single-sided 12” that will be available on two beautiful color variations.

Eagle Mountain, UT is pretty much where you would consider the middle of nowhere being. With literally no alternative music scene anywhere nearby, Captives decided to make the bold move and create music with a raw and deeply emotional sound hoping to become the spark that would ignite their city with the music that they grew up listening to. 

Drawing inspirations from Brand New, Neutral Milk Hotel, Thrice, and Seahaven the band set out to record their debut EP “My Eyes Are Open.” A post-hardcore/alternative rock album about losing childhood innocence and becoming bitter over it. The album was recorded at Interlace Audio with Stephen Hawkes (American Me, Vanna)

The release marks the launch of Reveille Records digital to vinyl program where all digital download proceeds go directly to having the album pressed on vinyl.
