With a production career spanning almost a decade, Brazilian-born, Barcelona-based Pedro Capelossi has forged a distinctive sound which focuses on inventive use of atmosphere and rhythm, drawing the lines between global dance cultures without adhering to any fixed formula.

In 2023 he founded his own musical imprint REFRACTION RECORDS.  Representing some of the world’s most avant-garde visual artists, designers and musicians, REFRACTION blurs the boundaries between house, techno and its closely related derivatives.

Pablo Bolivar's Seven Villas has been a primary vehicle for Pedro's far-reaching work, with additional projects on Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, Madloch’s Sound Avenue, Loot Recordings, TOR (When We Dip) and Hoomidas Records. Over the years, Pedro's tracks have been supported by names such as Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Eelke Kleijn, Pablo Bolívar, Armen Miran, Matt Darrey and Airwave.

Capelossi’s DJ performances focus on underground dub house and dub techno, deep house, minimal and downtempo. His versatility to move between different styles depending on audience and event, allows him to perform club gigs as well as festivals. He has played innumerable events both in his current home of Barcelona, as well as back in São Paulo, and, indeed, around the world.

We have been following Pedro for years now, and are honoured that he agreed to make us this exclusive guest mix, Institution 085: Pedro Capelossi!

BIO
Frankfurt based DJ, producer, curator and event manager Shia LaBiff, known amongst his peers as Michèl Dion Baltin, has a huge repertoire of music and influences which he is constantly sharing for more than 20 years.
Starting in early age with Indie, Post Punk and New Wave he soon discovered the joy of electronic club music and started following the path of New Order, Primal Scream and Andrew Weatherall into a new beat driven world. 
You will hear shades of Italo and Electronic Body Music, New Beat, Acid House, Techno and New/Cold/Synthwave in his mixtapes or DJ sets. His event and guest mix series Blank Wave is providing artists like Perel, Lauer, Shubostar, Que Sakamoto, Rotciv, Moderna and Skelesys – just to name a few.

You can start finding who you are by listening to yourself, how you feel, and how you want to react to a situation. This can get you more in tune with your feelings and emotions, helping you begin to express yourself.

@somerleds is a selector and DJ hailing from Wellington, New Zealand.

He first got turned on to electronic music in the very early 1990s when passed a UK
hardcore cassette in the halls of Wellington College. He then immersed himself in all things
electronic seeking out warehouse raves and outdoor festivals where futuristic soundscapes
from Goa trance to German techno were unleashed upon the ravers.

Somerled's influences have evolved from these early days to now include anything on the
spectrum of electronica from acid house to progressive trance to drum and bass. With many
up and coming producers re-framing the original sounds of the 90s with vastly improved
production tools and techniques, Somerled is now inspired to go back to his roots and mix
tracks close to his heart.

In this specially curated set for the Xpress Yourself series, Somerled takes the listener on a
journey from break-beat beginnings with soulful vocals through acid house and then leads
you deep into the jungle.
